1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse Logo

My 99 eclipse will randomly slam forward like i locked up the brakes but its not the brakes what else could it be?

I was told it could possibly be the tranny filter or my brakes grabbing but it only does it every once in a while and its a violent jump as if the engine is locking up but then it keeps running and has no problems idling.

Brakes just don't do this. This is what people will say - ABS system playing up: to me this just does not seem likely the ABS system is designed to stop lock-ups. Then others will say it is your master cylinder - My experience is more that when these fail they make it hard for you to break. Air in the line usually is a soft pedal and once again no brakes. Stick with me here - For the brakes to work they need fluid pressure - how can fluid pressure build up to the point where it pushes the brakes on? I am thinking some very basic physics here - kinked lines these are not allowing the pressure to be fully released from the line system. I would check for kinked lines and I am also thinking that when you turn this may exasperate the line kinking.

ok well if it was something in my braking system would it cause it to randomly throw me forward and almost stop my car and then not do it anymore for awhile? Its a very violent action when it happens.

That is why I suggested kinked lines - a kink means the pressure in the line will not be consistent my theory is when it builds up high enough the brakes come on. There are usually some kind of flexible lines that allow flex when the wheels turn. If you raise the front of the car and turn the wheels full left and right and observe the brake hoses to see if they are kinking. That was a simple thing that can be done right from the start. The brake system is very mechanical with electronic controls that usually prevent skidding. I am keen to know exactly what the problem was when you pin it down.

sounds like the ignition barrel is starting to go the only thing really to do is either wait for it to completely die and then replace it or just replace it now

SOURCE: Replaced battery on a 1992 Mitsubishi eclipse, still needs jump

THE HIGH LOW IDLE MAY BE A SIGN OF A LOW COOLANT LEVEL.THE IDLE CIRCUIT IS CONTROLED BY ENGINE TEMP.AS FAR AS THE BATTERY.THE STARTER MAY BE DRAWING TO MANY AMPS.THERE MAY BE A DRAIN ON THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM W/THE KEY OUT.

Have a qualified technician check your brake calipers and your abs system This is nothing to fool around with, as if something is causing your brakes to come on without brake input, it could work the other way too! GET IT CHECKED OUT!

My 98 Jimmy moves backwards and forwards but then feels like I slowing down or slamming on the brakes. Could it be my brakes freezing up?

Are the brakes getting hot? You would smell them and see smoke and of course the brakes would wear out really fast, if that isn't the case let me know. If that is the case and any wheels the brakes get hot then you may have a defective anti-lock brake (ABS) system hydraulic control module.

When I press on the brakes while driving, the steering wheel shakes. What causes this?

This can be from warped rotors in the brakes. If you had to slam the brakes recently you may have warped them! May also be uneven brake pads. Check both and if there is an issue with them replace right away to avoid any safety issues!

Does a 03 chevy abs module have a bleeder on it

antilock braking systems have sensors and if the abs light is on the sensor is 99% at fault all brake systems whether you have a disk or drum set up have bleeder valves on the calipers on a disk set up or wheel cylinders on a drum set up. This doesn't affect your abs light however. Your abs system in essense is supposed to pulse your brakes almost as if you press them a hundred times a second to keep them from locking up. Try this in an open area or parking lot go about 20-30 mph and slam your brake pedal it will more than likely lock up and from there go to your local parts store and gwet an new abs sensor they take 5 minutes generally to install

2001 Kia sportage - rear driver wheel locks up randomly. Seems to happen most when I've backed up and put the brakes on, then going forward the rear wheel is seized solid! It happens randomly, and often...

Remove the brake drum and check the brake shoes. I had a similar problem with my 99 Sportage. The brake shoe separated from the backing and was jamming the brake drum. A new set of brake shoes fixed the problem.

Right rear brake has slow brake fluid leak. It's a 99' Ford Taurus

leaking fluid will not cause a brake to lock up unless the wheel cylinder is leaking and caused the brake shoe to swell. If so, you need a new wheel cylinder.

99 Jeep GC brake lock.

You say they replaced basicly everything that involes the rear brakes.
Every step they took to find the problem could lead to the solution,BUT did they check the inboard brakes. The brake system on a jeep that has rear rotors have inboard shoes for the parking brake.
You could have a parking brake cable that is frozen (this will cause a drag on the inboard brakes. Do you use the parking brake? Maybe the parking brake shoes are adjusted too tight?
