The car will only creep in forward or reverse but only with the engine reved to 3500 rpm. Checking the fluid seems to be futile since there has been no leaks, and rebuilding is too expensive for my pocket. So is there any other thing I can c heck as far as electrical goes which may be related to the transmission operation. Of course any other things you can think of would be more than welcome. Also forgot to mention that the vehicle will go into third gear in the select shift mode and drive. Thats how I got it home.

2001 Lincoln LS V8 Auto, 84,000 miles. ON THE DISPLAY INSIDE THE CAR I GOT A "CHECK TRANSMISSION" WARNING. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I EVER SAW THIS. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK IT TO A LINCOLN DEALERSHIP AND HAD IT SERVICED. AFTER A 120.00 DIAGNOSTICS FEE I LEARNED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED. I WAS TOLD THE 4TH AND 5TH GEAR IS INOPERABLE AND THAT THERE WAS A LOT OF TRASH AND EVEN METAL INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME IN 3RD. 84,000 MILES GIVE ME A BREAK!! I DON'T BELIEVE THIS SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED. THAT'S NOT ENOUGH MILES FOR A TRANS. TO GO OUT. AND ONLY ONE DAYS WARNING. THESE CARS COST WAY TO MUCH TO BE HAVING THIS KIND OF PROBLEM. MAKES ME NOT WANT TO PUT ANY MONEY INTO THEM. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
its a common problem for both the lincoln ls and jaguar s type. i have a 2001 jaguar s-type and my car is having the xact same problem. Ford was just making bad tranny's at the time. a new jag trans is 5000 a new ls trans is 1600. From what i was told they are the same trans and can be put in either model.
