Have 2008 ford focus. Had issues with it starting, got it started (using starter fluid) but everytime i give gas it dies.

Don't go to work if you need to use it later :)

remove and clean the idle sensor valve. pull out and clean the PCV valve (on top of the valve cover).blow out (from the inside) the air filter. do not apply gas until after your vehicle starts.

Did you try jumping it?

I would start with cleaning the battery terminals ,teast battery & alt

does the vehicle click while turning the key ? probably not enough life left in the other battery to turn over the vehicle.

Sounds like a timing problem. You can buy a chiltons manual for the car and it will give you step by step procedure to check timing and set it if it is off.

over half a tank of fuel ,well fuel has weight so this could be a weak pump of the gauze filter on the pump needs a clean

If the only evidence of trying to start was when u used starter fluid, it's probably a fuel issue. After attempting to start several times, pull a plug and check for gas/wet plug. If there is no evidence of gas reaching the plug, it's probably the fuel pump. Change the fuel filter too.
