I know of no adjustment for the timing belt, they have a spring loaded tensioner that keeps the belt tight. Honda wants you to change the belt every 90,000 mile. I would always change the tensioner and the water pump, which is driven by the timing belt, at the same time. If there is any question about how long the belt has been on the engine, replace it, you do not want the belt to fail at highway speed.

SOURCE: 2003 Honda Civic -LX Timing belt

I tried to get my timing belt/water pumped changed at 96,000K's and my dealer told me the belt in our 2003 Civic is good for 7 years or 168,000K's. I didn't believe him, so I called another dealer out of town and they told me 7 years or 184,000K's.

SOURCE: 95 honda civic timing belt replacement process

If you have never changed a cambelt (timing belt) then it is not recommended that you attempt it. It is a job for a mechanic, as getting the cam timing wrong on reassembly is easy to do and can have disastrous consequences. It is easy enough once you know how, and if you are reasonably mechanically able, I'd suggest getting a repair manual for your vehicle that has a step by step procedure for timing belt replacement. Companies like Haynes produce very good repair manuals.

Can I time the engine without taking the bottom pulley off?? If so is the middle mark on the pulley TDC? (1994 Honda Civic DX 1.5liter single overhead cam)

You should remove the Crankshaft Pulley, because you have to remove the Timing Belt Cover to remove the belt, adjust tension, and line up the Timing Marks.

After replacing my timing belt on a 2001 civic 1.7 the engine is pinging.how do i adjust the timing

It sounds like the timing belt may be off a tooth. It is very common when replacing timing belt to not have all the slack on the same side as the tensioner. It is always recomended after setting tensioner to rotate the engine by hand two revolutions and recheck timing marks.

How to remove water pump form honda civic 1994 ex

Hi:
The water pump is located underneath the timing belt cover, on the drivers side of the engine. To swap the water pump, you need to remove the timing belt cover, timing belt, and the timing belt tensioner. I usually tell people that this can be done in a day, but sometimes not ! Also, all of the other drive belts , such as Air conditioning and the alternator belt all need removed too.

How to change timing belt honda civic 1994 1.5lt

I would buy a Hanes or Chiltons book at a parts store first. Their are many things to remove and you will need to know how to set timing marks. Also you should check the valves and pistons for damage.
