I've been told this is a transmission problem. What does error code P1788 mean? What needs to be done to repair this issue?
This code sometimes comes up when the transmission is not shifting in overdrive.
Here is some research that I did and this is wut I found
This code is set whenever in any forward gear with engine speed above 1000 RPM shortly after a shift and every minute thereafter
After a shift into a forward gear, with engine speed > 1000 RPM, the TCM (Transmission Control Module) momentarily turns on element pressure to the clutch that don’t have pressure. For this to be activated, the switch must be closed in order for the circuitry to be completed. If the pressure switch does not close 2 times the code sets.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
RELATED DTC’S PRESENT
TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL
INTERMITTENT WIRING AND CONNECTORS
TRANSMISSION CONTROL RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT OPEN
2/4 PRESSURE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT OPEN
2/4 PRESSURE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND
2/4 PRESSURE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT SHORT TO VOLTAGE
INTERNAL TRANSMISSION
TCM - 2/4 HYDRAULIC PRESSURE
My advice to u is get to someone who is experienced about this kind of technology in order for the problem to be rectified.

My 1999 Stratus hangs in second gear when having to drive it an extended distance, i.e. long 20 mph school zones. This trips the check engine light to come on & transmission hangs in second gear. Turning off the engine & restarting allows car to shift normal for a short period, but engine light stays on. Removing the Neg battery cable resets light to off & car acts normal for long periods of time (until the next low speed extended drive). Could the TCM be intermittent? I have no trouble unless driven at low speed for extended time. This is the 4 speed with optional manual shift.
