Need to remove the heater core from a 1998 Dodge Dakota, 3.9 engine, 2-wheel drive.

That's a big job (involves removing the dashboard). There are a few videos on YouTube dealing with this. Search "replace heater core dodge Dakota" to get guidance.

you will need to remove fan shroud and transmission line along with upper and lower radiator hoses then unbolt the radiator the lift it up thru the top of engin compartment and do a reverse install.

Are you trying to bypass the heater core? If so find the 2 hoses mounted to the firewall on the passenger side. Remove them and put them om a short piece of copper pipe ( about 2 inches long) make sure to use band clamps on the hoses.

i just pulled my heater core from my 97 dakota. first pull the negitive cble from the battery next start with pulling all the plastic from the dash and kick pannels. Next yu need ti pull the bolts from the dash and under the dash. third drop the stering wheel and let it set in the seat. Forth you need to pull your heater hose lines loose from the heater core and your evaporater from the cooler. next you need to pull the passenger side of the dash out about one and a half feet to get the heater box out and to put it back together go in rev the way you took it out.

Disconnect the battery positive cable on the left strut tower.Drain the radiator, and disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core.You have to remove every bracket attached over the heater core.After reaching to the remove the screws and cables and pull it out.And now you have to reverse the process .VOTE FOR ME IF IT HELPS

PARTS STORES HAVE COOLING SYSTEM FLUSH KITS THAT HOOK UP A GARDEN HOSE.ALSO GET SOME FLUSHING SOLUTION.IT WORKS BEST WHEN THE ENGINE IS AT OPERATING TEMP.

Sounds as if the engine is not building up temp due to cooling system working. If engine temp gage is reading low try covering 1/3 of radiator with a piece of cardboard "Bumper side" to reduce the cooling effect.. just watch temp and out side temps if warming up outside or heavy driving remove the blocking to allow full cooling

May be a plugged heater core. OR Someone removed your thermostat to cure you overheating problem. Remove heater hoses , (in and out hoses) leading to and from heater core and try to blow through it. DO NOT clean out using more than 16 p.s.i. as this will burst you heater core.Also check to be sure heater flap is opering to let heated air into cab.

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
2. Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.
3. If equipped with air conditioning, recover the refrigerant.
4. Disconnect the liquid line refrigerant line fitting from the evaporator inlet tube.
5. Loosen the accumulator.
6. Dakota, Durango: disconnect the accumulator inlet tube.
7. Drain the cooling system.
8. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core tubes.
9. Remove the powertrain control module from the dash panel. Disconnecting wiring is not necessary.
10. Remove the four nuts from the heater-A/C mounting studs on the engine compartment side of the dash panel.
11. Remove the nut(s) that secure(s) the heater-A/C housing mounting brace to the stud(s) on the passenger compartment side of the dash board.
12. Pull the housing rearward far enough for the mounting studs and evaporator condensate drain tube to clear the dash panel holes.
13. Remove the housing from the vehicle.
14. Lift the heater core out of the housing.
15. Installation is the reverse of removal.

have u checked the heater core inlet and outlet hose's are the hot, one hot side one cool indicates a plugged up core. if that is ok u may have a stuck air temperature control blend door in the dash air distribution system, also make sure your engine reaches at least 180 deg F.
