if you have got the all alluminium xj350 then the common cause is the latches sieze plus the cable corrodes on the inner wing securing little clamp cos it wears through the protective coating. try getting someone pushing down on the front of the hood whilst you pull on the release lever

To open the hood:
1. Pull the hood release handle
inside the vehicle. It is on the
lower left side of the instrument

You will need to replaced the components that liquid got in, no choice there..

If the locking mechanism fails or no power is available, it is possible to open the boot using a long thin screwdriver through the lower right licence plate mounting hole.

Follow the linkage rod from the lock mechanism itself going left, towards the centre, to where it joins the catch mechanism and push here. It can help to shine a light through the left side licence plate hole, and also to get a second screwdriver in here to take a little of the tension off the catch itself, though not too much or it will spring back into place.

genrally these should be under the hood or under the dash, on the right hand side. there should be a cover if you open the bonnet(hood) and inspect near the firewall, there should be a cover that is labeled cabin filter. thses are the only 2 locations that would even work. to change, simply take the old one out. no tricks.

One of the 2 cables on my hood release is loose. One works fine and releases (dirver's side) but the other is loose and does not. I cannot get my hood up. I have a 1998 Jaguar XJ8
