My 1999 honda civic just stalled on me as i was driving. Was told it could be the fuel pump or fuel pump relay? it takes me about 8 mins of just waiting before i can start it again?

It starts to putter now and sounds as if its going to die but then doesnt. And yesterday as i was driving through a tunnel it just died. Sat in the tunnels for all about 10 mins before it turned over and i was able to drive away. I stopped to put gas in my car and same issue; took about 8 mins before i was able to start and drive away. Getting more and more aggrevated with this car and just wondering what i should do to fix it. Have no money saved for a new car and my daughter and i need a vehicle.

SOURCE: fuel

It's an electrical problem, not mechanical (read: fuel filter is a good idea, but will not solve this symptom).
My diagnostic efforts would be directed to the ignition system first,as the symptoms sound like igntion more than fuel, and it's more complicated has more components, hence has more potential to fail.  Get a haynes manual if you don't already have one and use the diagnosics there for  ignition circuit and fuel system. available at autoparts store, amazon or haynes.com.  It will be the best $20 you spent for your car.

Do all the other electrics work well when the car dies, check if headlights are dim and if the starter turns over strong when it dies?   If not it could be a bad ground on either end of the 2 battery cables.  If all other electric works OK when it dies, and you still think it's a fuel delivery problem,  concentrate on the fuel pump circuit, pull the fuse and look for any slight corrosion, if found you need to at least spray electrical contact cleaner into the socket (use saftey glasses!!!) and clean the fuse or replace it.  trace wires to fuel pump and find terminal connectors, pull them off and do the same thing.
good luck, I miss the '89 civic 1500 i used to own .. a tight, solid, fun little car

SOURCE: 1993 honda accord dies while driving...

This vehicle from personal experience definitely has a problem with the MAIN relay that's located under the dash are right above the brake pedal. Its a brown box with a plug in it. I believe that's the problem its less than 100 dollars from the dealer its control the spark and the fuel on this car. Good Luck. Contact if you need more help. Thanks for using FIX YA

SOURCE: 89' honda civic lx dies after 10 minutes or warms up?

it is probably your distributer. It has a internal amplifier and when it gets hot, it quits working.

SOURCE: 1991 honda accord car start

This is a fuel pump issue there are three things that impact this:
1. The injectors are supposed to seal when they are off. When they dont you have leakage into the intake and it can cause flooding of the engine. OR air gets in the fuel lines and the gas drops back in the tank.
2. Fuel pressure is one issue of a pump failure
3. Fuel VOLUME is another issue of a pump failure.

The pump is electric and it is in the tank. They are a chore to change. You have to have almost all the fuel out of the tank and you raise the auto up on stands and drop the tank, You have to deal with the fuel neck to the filler and the gas lines, There is a fire hazard that is present and a new pump will cost you over 100 USD.

The injectors are not cheap either. You need to see if they drip or leak down when the engine is off.
The pressure volume test is another one that is not easy. Best thing to do is take it into a shop that you can trust. Dont take it to just anyone and be sure that you get estimates and have them keep the parts that they replace so that you can be sure they do the work.

2001 honda civic turns on, then turn off 10 sec, computer say everything ready, no engine light on i had a complete check done with a mechanic,it has spark and fuel pump okay, what could be the problem?

Your civic may be affected by a fuel pump connector safety recall. during the inspection an installation of the fuel tank water may have been left in the fuel pump connector. Over time, this water could corrode the terminals in the connector, causing the engine not to start or stall while driving. Have your local Honda dealer run a VIN Status inquiry on your vehicle to see if it is affected by this recall. If not than monitor fuel pump voltage. Back probe the yel/green wire at the fuel pump connector (acess panel under the rear seat.) if the voltage goes away before it dies than the PGM-FI main relay #2 is faulty. The relay is in the underdash fuse box. -hope this helps lmk

My honda civic 1998 model fuel pump failed and I changed it

The PGM Main relay is outboard of the glove box. You can see it if you get the glove box out of the way, but to remove it, you need to pop the triangular shaped plastic trim off of the end of the passenger side of your dash. The relay is held in place with one 10mm bolt and the electrical connector.

The engine stalls when the engine warms up! It usually happens when the weather gets very hot. If you let it cool down for a few mins it will start back up and you can drive awhile and it stalls again?

This is common with the Honda's in that era.
Could be the ignitor for the ignition or it could be the fuel relay. I think it is probably the fuel relay as I replaced the one on my wife's Honda Civic and now it runs like a charm.

1999 honda civic 1.6L very intermittent no start/stall no codes happened twice in 2 months when cold stalls very intermit when warm in gear

IT SOUNDS LIKE A FUEL PUMP OR A IGNITION PROBLEM A INDICATION OF A IGNITION PROBLEM IS THE TACHOMETER SMETIMES WILL START TO BOUNCE UP AND DOWN. CHECK FOR SPARK WHEN IT DIES IF THERE IS NO SPARK THAN IT IS A IGNITION PROBLEM. TO CHECK THE FUEL PUMP TURN THE KEY OFF THEN TURN FORWARDTO THE ACC POSIION AND LISTEN FOR THE FUEL PUMP TO HUMM IT WILL ONY HUMM FOR 5-10 SECONDS EACH TIME TOU DO THIS. THE REASON IT WORKS INTERMITANTLY IS BECAUSE THEY ARE BOTH ELECTRONIC PARTS AND WHEN THEY WARM UP THEY FRITZ OUT LET ME KNOW WHAT HAPPENS AND GOOD LUCK

Car dies out

Sounds like the fuel system is having a problem. If the exhaust is sooty, then it is rich, possible bad oxygen sensor or mass flow sensor. Else a clogged fuel filter, or weak fuel pump.
