Car is very inconsistent while accelerating. It is a automatic with no turbo or the like. It consistently revs very high even in low gears. Sometimes will almost seem to "drop out of gear" and lose where it is at and the rpms go all over. Happens when accelerating as well as decelerating. If coming to an abrupt stop it will rev very high for an instant before dropping down (sometimes making an almost misfire sound). Also even at high speeds if you start going up an incline the car will slowly start to struggle until it becomes too much and the rpms will fly up. It was leaking some oil from the valve cover gaskets into the two outer spark plugs but I replaced all of that. Added a new air filter. Put a new radiator cap on (which was leaking but now is just filled with what is becoming slimier all the time...) Not sure what to make of it : (.
SOURCE: Engine is missing and shaking bad when idleing or driving slow
it's probably one of the coils , I'd buy one and try replacing one of the two there ! , let me know how ya make out !
SOURCE: sudden drops in rpms for an 98 eclipse turbo
its probably the Idle air motor. they always go bad on the 4g63.
rpms should be about 750, or 850 with the A/C on
SOURCE: missing, loss of power, etc.
sounds from afar like a problem i had after installing after market spark plug cables on a diff. car. make sure you have factory-quality/ even mits. brand cables. (right parts vs. after mkt.?- no contest.)
SOURCE: 1994 Eclipse revs up and down, sometimes cuts off
I'm thinking fuel pump. When computer senses lean condition, it tries to compensate by increasing fuel. Then becomes too rich causing fuel cutoff thus the rev indication. If pump overheats it shuts down thus no start. The good news on this car the fuel pump can be accessed under the spare tire without dropping the fuel tank. Check fuel pressure to verify. Other suspects ISC and Throttle Position Sensor.
SOURCE: engine revs go high when changing gears but loss of power on MAGN
throttle body shaft seals are worn do a boost leak test and you will hear the leak
