Cannot open front passenger door from inside or outside.

The outside handle probably broke inside the door . Just plastic , happens on all make an model vehicles . Would need to take the door panel off an replace it , probably have video's on youtube showing how too.

The outside handle (inside handle too) pulls a rod which opens the door. In your case, the plastic attachment to the rod broke which is a common problem with older Hyundai's and the only way to restore function is to replace the handle. A dealer will charge you about $250 to replace the handle. Alternatively, if you are handy, with no special tools you can do yourself and you can buy a replacement handle on eBay for less than $10. There are several youtube videos that will provide instruction on how to do. The inside door handle is very easy to replace - a $6 eBay part, a screwdriver and about 10 minutes will do it.

Unfortunately, door handles are subjected to very large forces, especially when someone who is used to a much harder door to open uses one that only needs a fraction of that force to open. The handle goes straight to its stops and all the rest of the energy has to go somwhere - generally into the plastic lever that is only as thick as a pencil. Are you the first owner from new? As for "having too many problems", I know many people who would swap broken door handles and worn CV joints or split boots with you just so that you can deal with their serious, undiagnosable problems instead! Start by spraying WD-40 or similar penetrant in behind and all around door latch & in behind handle as much as you can get to, and give it time to soak in & keep working it, as it may be just a lack of lubricant & becoming partially seized.May take 2 or 3 soakings.

if you hit the lock button a couple times, will it finally lock?

If so, then you will need to take door cover off and lube up the connectors as they probably got corroded.

Two 10mm bolts, or nuts, hold the handle on from inside the door. dont forget to remove actuating rod from old handle. probably clip is broke also.

Same problem. I have a 2000 Suzuki Esteem GL. A year ago the driver's door handle broke. Heard a sound and then it was loose. Could not open it from outside. Had to open front passenger door, open the driver's door from inside and then go out again to enter from the driver's door. FRUSTRATING. My mechanic had to take the door apart to fix it. Just a week ago, my front passenger door died on me. Can't open it from outside nor inside. The door won't open. This is such a stupid problem that costs lots to repair. Never will buy a Suzuki again. Had too many problems with it (had to fix gas tank, doors that won't open, front axle...).
