There are fuses that work with your dash. You can always check to make sure that's it's not blown out before you start spending money to have a mechanic check it out
I am assuming your old air flow pipe was ripped ? If that was the case it can often damage the air mass sensor / meter, they are quite delicate on these cars. the other alternative would be the throttle control module although these raely go, do all the air pipes have a good tight seal around them? any air leaks will cause the car to be sluggish.
Hope this helps, as regard to the clocks not showing mileage is the back light lit up?
This is caused by a fault in your IKE (Instrument Cluster Electronics) module. Has someone attached a scanner to it recently ? Some cheap scanners corrupt the programming of the IKE module. You might be able to use the hidden menu to reset the dash but experience shows it will probably be an expensive trip to BMW to either reprogramme the existing dash or replace the module. If you need help on getting into the hidden menu, try this link http://www.ideaphile.com/bmw/540-obc.html
My car starts fine. Goes into reverse drive but starts off in 3rd so if anyone knows whats going on here let me no my e-mail is [email protected] also my dash displays break light circuit.
This is showing that your overdue for a sevice by 8,769. Depending on which service it will either say oil or inspection. With bmw's the order is of service is oil service .. inspection 1 ... oil service .... inspection 2. etc etc.
To reset the light the only tool you need is your finger. On some e46's there are 2 instrument cluster buttons (little rubber poles sticking out). If you press the left one with the ignition off you'll notice your mileage come up on the dash. This is the button you need to reset the service indicator.
With everything off, press and hold the same button and at the same time turn on the ignition to position 2 and wait a few seconds. It will then show the service and overdue mileage.Let go of the button and press and hold again until the 'reset' light flashes. Let go again and then hit the button once. Viola! The same can be done for resetting brake fluid light (clock symbol next to mileage) Instead of pressing and holding for the second time just press the button once to follow into a different menu for and the clock symbol will appear to be reset.
