Serpentine belt broke and cannt figure out how it goes back on

My van is doing the same thing I installed the new bracket and it did it again tonight, thats less the 24 hours...

First, take several pictures of the serpentine belt arangement so you know how that goes back together.
Here are the steps I recommend :
- 1 ) Remove negative cable (black) from the battery.
- 2 ) Loosen the serpentine belt by pulling back the belt tensioner( you may need a special tool)
- 3 ) Remove the connector plug and( red) hot wire.
- 4 ) Pull the bolts out holding alt on bracket.
- 5 ) Pull out alt.
How do you know that the alt is bad ? A auto parts center can check it for you.
What are you replacing it with, new or used.

Hello. look around inside of the engine compartment, on the inside of the hood, and in your owner manual. They always put a diagram of the serpentine belt somewhere.

First verify that the belt is on correctly. If the belt is around the water pump the wrong way it will spin the water pump backward and not correctly circulate the coolant causing it to overheat. When you drove it without the belt did you overheat the motor?How quickly does it overheat? Does thermostat ever open?

Check the underside of your hood for a belt diagram. If it's not there, call your dealer with your VIN number to get the correct diagram.

a bad belt tensioner leaving too much slack in belt causes it to break.

remove the belt to ac compressor.take your serpentine belt go around crank pulley goes around power steering pump goes around alternator and the tensioner on the far left. the water pump on the out side and the top idler pulley out side. the belt drives them from the out side. then you put your ac compressor belt back on.

You need to have an automotive technitian install a new belt because there is a certain path the belt must follow before it will go on, plus the belt must go around the A/c as it is part of the path. You just don't have to use the A/C.

Tell the tech that the belt broke so that he can look for a reason as to why the belt broke.
