The vehicle is a 1998 Honda Passport 4wd v6
Recently, one of the bearings inside a serpentine-belt pulley fell out and destroyed the belt. I replaced the pulley and belt myself, following the diagram in a Haynes book I bought from Autozone. Everything went together fairly easy (very easy in comparison to replacing this vehicles starter), maybe even a little too easy. I was able to muscle the belt onto the top pulley by hand, as one of the lower pulleys gave just a tad when I pulled hard enough. (as if it was spring loaded)
The car started just fine and ran for about 5 seconds before shutting off. It won't start now. It's not even trying. When I turn the key, for a few moments it sounds like it normally does when I start it, then for some reason that sound goes away and all I hear is the starter winding. Is my problem related to the belt I just replaced?

First you must check to see what missing. You must have spark at the pugs and gas at the injector for this car to start. See whats missing and get back to me. The 1995 Honda Accord has a history of bad distributor. If there is no spark at the spark plugs replace distributor. However on some models the coil is separate and not in the distributor, if so make sure the coil is working.

Ok so that wasn't it. Three days later problem came back. Replaced battery cables. Problem goes away for another few days. Came back again and found what I think is finally it. Engine Cut Out Relay in the power distribution box. (of note the expert told me there were no relays in the ignition system) Although the local auto parts store's computer said they did not carry this relay, I took it in anyway and they matched it up with one off the shelf. $7.50 and I am running good as new. Hope this helps some of the rest of you. Also, the wiring schematic in the back of the Haynes manual was also an invaluable assist on this one.

Make sure you check timing and the belt. if it spun don't risk putting it back on. Hope you got a new key. TIMING is important so you don't stick a valve through the top of your piston
