I doubt it.
The sensor is for the computer and the temp gauge on the dash.
If the heater hoses are getting hot, and the radiator is full of coolant, you may have a blend door problem.
The blend doors direct air thru the heater core and the vents.

Change cap on top of water overflow bottle, usually blue, and empty coolant and top up with 4 litres vw antifreeze and fill up rest with filtered rainwater .

SOURCE: my heat not workini but blow cold air where is

Has the car been changed coolant since it was bought? If it is time to change, let do a flush through a heater core. There are 2 coolant hoses going thru a fire wall. One for coolant in and one for coolant out. Heater only works if coolant is flowing through the heater core. Therefore, there are one or both following cases contributes to the problem: 1-If the valve control coolant flow gets stuck, then it always closes  so there is no heat. 2-If the valve is working, but the heater core gets clogged up, then there is no heat.

SOURCE: volkswagen jetta over heating

hi tammy
it could be an air lock stopping the water from circulating properly i seem to recall this problem on the older VW Derby and audi 50 (same engine) there is a small bleed screw at the highest point on the cooling system that allows you to bleed this air out youll find its location in the manual

another thing to try is put a flushing agent through the system incase there are any blockages in the radiator itself

hope this helps

I have a 2003 chevy impala. Just recently come acrossed in issue where the heater blows nothing but cold air even with the temp gauge going as high as it can get. Weather its at an idle or being driven....

providing your coolant is full cause low coolant will cause no heat
and your temp gauge is normal in the middle then most likely u have a bad blend door actuator usually on the passenger side

Thermostat stuck open?
Faulty temp sensor or gauge?
If heat comes out of the heater, engine thermostat is ok. That will isolate it to probably the temp sensor in the temp indication system (sensor & gauge).
The cooling system should be full. Temp sensors cannot read the engine temperature of steam or empty cooling galleries.

Heat goes in and out and the temp gauge goes up and down

Your temp sensor has nothing to do with your heater. The temp sensor needs coolant in order to work properly. So first check the coolant level because if it is low your heater will act the way you describe. Once the coolant gets low enough the heater will blow cold. Another possibility is the radiator cap. After the engine has warmed up it expands when it cools down it contracts. As it is contracting if the cap is weak air can be drawn into the system and cause air pockets to form and will cause the same problem

I have a 98 ford windstar..heat doesnt work...will only blow cold air, but engine temp. stays normal, when i turn on heat it only blows at window vent..what can this be?

It could be your heating coil. It seems that your fan is running (at least to the outside vents). Since your temp. is fine there is probable not a problem with your coolant. As far as it not blowing through the vents in the middle couldn't tell you.

My temp gauge stays on hot but not over heating and the heater is blowing cold

you might have a defective sender unit (temperature) or faulty wiring to the same unit.Identify the sender unit and disconnect it whilst your ignition is on. Temp gauge must fall to cold.If it does, sender unit needs replacement and if it stays high your wiring to the sender unit is shorting with ground

Temp gauge goes up when stopped and goes back down when cruising.

Your thermostat is either defective or your cooling fan is not engaging on the right tempertures (sensor)

Overheating in 2002 sedona

To check if it is the thermostat run the car and when the temp starts going up turn the heat on full blast in the car. If the temp goes down after you turn the heat on than it is your thermostat.

this is caused in most cases by the air temp control blend door actuator being defective.
