DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK WITH KEY OR REMOTE

I am just returning from a week of vacation, prior to leaving I had no problems with the car and drove it until getting the rental car. It is about 40 degrees fahrenheit here. I can not get the car to unlock with the key or the remote. I was thinking I may have left the interior lights on and killed the battery, so I was preparing to give it a jump but if I can't get into the car I can't pull the hood latch either. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Didnt specify vehicle --generic answer --if key doesnt work on door then you have two problems --if fob doesnt open drivers door and other doors try changing fob battery -if no go either need locksmith or AAA service to slim door ---also if key doesnt open door possible lock linkage damage or disconnect --rare that both would happen and lastly make sure using proper fob and key

Are the OTHER remotes working properly? If so, there is no wiring issues. It is rare that wiring can cause the remotes to be inoperative...Sadly, I have observed many remote/fobs that simply fail. I would advise both of you to take your fobs to your local Toyota dealer, and have the Service Dept check the RF output from the remotes on their hand-held detector. This is the only way to determine if the fob/remote is indeed working. No RF = no lock/unlock. All Toyota dealers should have this box, it is a required special tool. The part number for the detector is 00002-09001-01

Your power door locke solenoid is seized. You will need to replace it. You are going to have to get the entire door panel off, and then reach in to manually pull the solenoid arm to retract the lock mechanism. Then the door will open.

SOURCE: can not lock car by key remote . toyota rav 4 53 plate

If your car has an alarm with a separate remote, it is a separate system and it is probably self-arming. When you lock the doors with the key central lock, the alarm gets armed by the RAV4 being OFF and the door locking action. When you unlock the doors with the key, the alarm is still armed because the key is not comunicating with the alarm just the cars factory keyless system.

The remte control key is not responding with the car

Hi abdumi0f,

Firstly, open your glove box and make sure Valet Mode is not enabled, if it is not, follow these steps.

Step 1: Open drivers door and leave open.
Step 2: Lock and unlock the driver’s door using the power door lock switch on the door.
Step 3: Insert key into the ignition.
Step 4: Turn key to on position and return to off position. (IMPORTANT - use ON position NOT ACC position). Do this 3 times within 10 seconds. Leave key in the ignition.
Step 5: Open and close the driver’s door 3 times. (Door should be left open after this step).
Step 6: ECU should respond by locking and unlocking the doors.
Step 7: Press any button on remote #1 twice. ECU responds by locking and unlocking the car doors.
Step 8: Press any button on remote #2 (etc.) twice. Each time the ECU will respond by locking & unlocking the doors.
Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition and the ECU will respond a final time with a series of door locks and unlocks. You're done!

Hope this helps,

Unable to lock/unlock doors with key or remote

In answer to your question nothing had been replaced or repaired prior to the problem.
Batteries in all the remotes or the car have been renewed. Problem still exists.
Removal and replacement of the fuse 25 resetting the ignition module. Starting the engine and moving the car to a different location the locking system operated normally but on returning to my home the system failed.
My wife returned home later and her car a different make and model would not lock.
I have since turned off my broadband wireless network system and holding the lock button for approx 15 seconds the lock operated.
I will post findings after further trails
