Hello My 2004 Toyota matrix xrs keeps idling high (2000-3000 rpms) when i press in the clutch ( i have to tap the gas to get the rpms to go back down to about 900-1000). I have changed out the Idle air control value and the mass air flow sensor as well as had it checked for vacuum leaks. I have checked most of the online hint boards for problems like mine but there really isn't much out there for this problem on my car and nothing saying if their vehicle is standards or not. Thanks for any help[ you can give.

You are really onto it! Either the TPS or the cable from the peddle. Do check the cable first. Frankster016

sound very much like a vacuum leak.... also maybe your timing is off? possibly advanced? try retarding it with the distributor if thats the case...

sounds like your throttle positioning sensor is not set right so i would undo the two phillips heads that hold it and turn it till the idle doesnt fluctuate should be turned most of the way to the front of the truck. Also check your idle screw that throttle body could be set different.

sounds like the IAC (idle air control valve) or possibly a vaccum leak. As far as the cat. converter not ready, the vehicle must be driven a certain distance or go through a certain amount of drive cycles for all the systems to be monitered. Most of the time i just take the vehicle for a 50 mile drive on the freeway and that usually does it.
This could be any number of things. The key is they check engine light being on. Scan the computer for trouble codes. This will make the problem a lot clearer once you know what codes are present.
It could be anything from a pedal position sensor to a throttle body. both of which are fairly expensive. It could also be as simple as a blown fuse (which could be to be a more difficult problem if it continues to blow).
You have three options for getting the code(s)
1. Buy a code reader for about $50 and pull them yourself.
2. call your local parts store to see if they provide this service.
3. Have a check engine light diagnosis performed at your local garage or dealer (there is usually a fee for this).
Once you know the code(s) post them here and I'll be happy to help you further.
