Clicking noise when trying to start car,battery is ok, wont start

Tried to start car and it was starting to crank over then started getting this clicking noise. thought it was the battery connection, I cleaned the cables and posts and still got clicking noise when turning the key. Tried to jump start and that wouldn't work either. Ten the clicking noise stopped completly and it makes no sound at all when turning the key. Do you think it is the starter or celunoid ?? and where would either be located on my engine. My car is a 1986 Chevy Celebrity Stationwagon.

    i have a 1984 chevy silverado, mint condition. didnt drive it all winter. battery wont jump. tried to jump and charge it with no luck. got headlights, and door buzzer but thats it. Any suggerstions? Selanoid? Starter?

That Clicking is the Battery causing it not to Start. You need to Replace that Battery or at Least put a Charger on it for a Couple of hours to see if you can Salvage it for a While.

    if u can get to ur starter take a hammer an bang on it some times that helps

the alternator isn't charging battery that would account for loss of power and also clicking when try to start , try a jump start if it starts then you know its the battery so with engine running check the alternator charge rate with a voltmeter across the battery terminals anything below 13 volts then check the alternator belt is tight enough , good condition etc , then recheck charge rate if still low fit new alternator

Car wont start but lights work
Please provide with more detail. Does it make a click sound when turning the ignition? Does it crank?
Have you tried to jump the battery with jumping cable or tried it on a know good batteries?
- If the car does make a cranking noised then the starter is good but weak battery.
- If there is no noise or clicking, then dead battery.
- If you can hear the clicking when turning the key to start, then check for battery GROUND.
- If battery were tested and it read 12.5 - 14.0 DCV. Then your starter are bad.

There also other thing to check like security alarm system with ignition switch kill... But most common problems with fail to start are mention above.

Clicking noise wont start
Sounds like a weak solenoid on the starter. Probably needs starter replacement. Those cars need a mechanic to work on them.

What is clicking but wont turn? I'll take a guess here and say that you are trying to start your car. When you do, you hear a clicking noise but the car won't start?? If so, you need a new battery. Your battery isn't holding enough of a charge to start the car.

Clicking noise is the sound of the starter being bad and not having enough power to turn the motor over. Replace the starter.

sounds like your starter relay is bad! to find it just follow the clicking noise ( have someone turn it over while your listening under the hood!

i believe if you remove the steering wheel upper and lower covers, there will be a button to push to allow the removal of the key..as for the no start, the battery light is on because of the alternator. Its faulty. the clicking sound could very well be the starter not having enough power reaching to turn it over again unless you put a power pack on it...try a brand new battery, test the alternator and removed the key..it is possible the the key not shutting off the way, is drawing power from the battery not allowing to start that way, causing what they call a "parasitic drain". charge battery, remove key. try that

2001 nissan pathfinder- car wont start
Check tightness of the clamps on battery & make sure the earth cable is tight from battery to engine, also check tightness of nut holding the cable 2 starter motor if all ok there its most probably the solenoid on top of starter motor replace this with new all will b ok.
