Question about 1998 Toyota Corolla

Open Question

Spacio left side mirror noisy

I have a 1998 Toyota Corolla Spacio and when trying to use the electric side mirror on the left side the mirror starts buzzing really loudly and it doesn't stop. We have found a fuse that controls the radio and mirrors - removing this stops the noise, but then the radio/mirrors don't work! How do I fix this?

SOURCE: replacing passenger side mirror on 2005 toyota corolla.

I did exactly that on my Corolla CE recently. Pop the triangular plastic shield out on the inside, remove three nuts, disengage the electric line if you see one and that's it. If you want to get more specifics look the procedure up in the Haynes repair book for Corollas 2003-2005. By the way, the mirrors on Corrollas have, as so often, been constructed by people who never drove these cars. Mirrors get hit on and there should be a joint that allows the mirrors to fold inward. The Corrolla mirrors are still; they have no joint, so when they get hit they push the metal they are mounted on inward and later on you have a poor fit after chnaging them. These American-made Corrollas are in many respect the same **** as other American-made cars.

SOURCE: replacing non-heated left side mirror (driver's side)

This site will tell you what you need to know. good luck with this. In addition to the advice at the above site, I found another trick to removing the trim around the inside door handle. The above article refers to putting a screwdriver UNDER the door handle and pushing down ... to release a "secret latch". That's the first step. The second step (which is not in the article) is to insert the scredriver ABOVE the door handle ... vertically above the spot shown in the article. Then gently press the screwdriver handle down. With the screwdriver acting as a lever, the tip of the screwdriver will push UP on the top part of the trim. That will lift the trim up off a small pin on the handle mechanism. With both the bottom and top of the trim piece now "unlatched", slide the trim toward the back of the car, while you open the inside door handle (as mentioned in the article). The trim will come right off. Be sure to slide the trim toward the back of the car, as you move the trim away from the door panel. (There is a "hooked" piece of plastic on the back of that trim that prevents you from just pulling it out perpendicular to the door panel.) 'Hope these fine points help.

the fuses for the windows will be in fuse box, it sounds like possible water intrusion, the fuses should all be marked, if they are all good, you may have to remove the door panel to check for any damage at door switches
