Replacement engine for 1988 4runner

If there is no frame damage to the wrecked truck you could just switch the body from the 2WD onto the 4x4, as long as the cab and bed sizes are the same. the frames on both versions are the same, the computers are not the same, the one for the automatic is different from the 5 speed. To me this way is a lot less work, your just switching bodies.

Check the plugs and wires closely. Corrosion and a wire that is breaking under the coating cause high resistance.

Does the back interior light work? if no, chances are you have the #1 problem with back windows in 4runners, a connection under the back door panel, works itself loose, just plug it back together tight.otherwise check the fuse.#2 if that doesn't work did you bump into the back door, motor placement is sensitive to dings, and gets stuck. if not those prob a motor? i think i am not a mechanic.

Mopar 5W-30 is what the book will tell you. Any good name brand 5W-30 will work.

my experiences with toyota 4runners is that the ignition will do this when it is going bad. another problem that could cause this is a faulty injector that when it heats up it will short out.Hope this helps

This more than likely needs to be replaced.This is not very hard to do,usually a couple of nuts,a wire harness(plug),and you're good to go.You could try to lubricate(WD40) the arial slightly then try to gently push it down or pull it up,but if you have to force it the the drive assembly inside the antenna casing will probably brake.

You may have a bad blower motor pot. check with the dealer for a replacement unit and ask them how bad is it to change. usualy on older vehicles it is attached to the blower support. back plate

Dirty Read Lens. Usually dust.
Dirty Disc Present detector - ditto
Dirty or bad motor drive

To fix:
Blast it with pressurized air from side to side thru the Disc opening when it is open and empty. DO NOT stick the nozzle in more than 2" or you may hit the lens and carrier and ruin it.

Try again 3-4x. If it doesn't get better it is prob the CD motor and will need a techie (like me) to tshoot and fix

you have 3 choices.
1) Bad battery
2)Starter motor solenoid is inoperative or starter motor itself is inoperative
3) your engine is locked up
How old is your battery and are the connections to the starter motor good?
Do you hear a clicking noise when you try to start the engine?
Do you have a clunk noise when you try to start it?

If dirty connections then clean the terminals andtry to start engine.
Clicking noise means starter solenoid is picking up but starter motor is disunctional and needs replacement.
If the noise is a clunk then your engine is locked up for whatever reason.
Last but not least if you hear the starter motor runningand a metalic grinding then the star is bad on the starter motor which means replacement of same.

Keep in Mind, on the 2004 4Runners, if you have a V6, there is no timing belt. On the V6, it has a timing chain which are known to last much, much longer. Unless you frequently tow or put an extraordinary amount of strain on your engine, you may not ever need to replace it.
