SOURCE: Where is the Crank Sensor '99 BMW 523i E39 Auto

are you sure you need the crankshaft position sensor changed. it is at the back of the engine i believe, but.....
check for a wet ecu first... read the note on e36...

the ecu compartment is under the windshield on the passenger side on E36

you gain acess to it under the hood....
this compartment gets wet, the ecu lays on a flat surface in that
compartment.

the bottom side of the circuit board gets wet and starts corrosion.

remove the ecu, take the bottom plate off, clean the bottom of the circuit
board with alcohol and a soft tooth brush.

you should be able to see the signs of corrosion or conductive build up.

this gunk bridges solder points doing all sort s of wierd things to your
car, including false sensor readings from asc/abs controllers and other
sensors....

all the way to engine failure and worst case burnt and shorted wiring
harness.

I'm on my 3rd ecu, took me and the repair boys a few years to figure this
one out.

BTW: i would get that ecu mounted above that flat surface, use some sort
of standoff to raise it so that it is not laying in the wet.

Hi my 2003 316ti won't start petrol in cylinder 2 changed plugs and coils won't start but cranks please help xx

Petrol in the cylinder can be caused by a badly leaking injector as well. Check for spark in the other cylinders. If no spark there, it can be the anti theft system shutting the engine off. Check for fuel pressure. Remove the air filter cartridge and spray some starter fluid in the intake. If the engine tries to start, you may have a fuel pressure problem (pump or clogged filter)

Just brought BMW 316ti noticed a yellow light coming on in centre of dash do I need to worry

Of course you need to worry until you find out what the light means . IT could be a light warning you of a possible serious fault in the engine/ transmission ( engine fault light from no water ,brakes etc ) have it checked out before it can become costly.. Lights are not there as Christmas decorations but to save you money.

My alarm keeps going off bmw 316ti

Yes, it could be the door switches. If the door switches aren't on the B pillar, then they are within the door lock mechanism and you will have to remove the inner door skin to get to them.

Bmw 316ti compact dcs light stays on

See the information attached, and use the common sense, and logically. God bless you
The CD/DVD, has 2 switch one for open and another for to close. the swicth can be dust, dirty, or defective.Test the power switch for dirty, dust, or defective.
The unity can be dissasembly, and make troubleshooting, diagnose.
I can recommend you to go the repair shop. When the switch is NOT open they NOT send the signal to the SYSCON(CPU) or microcontroller.
God bless you

The ABS warning light on my BMW 316ti is flashing.

The flash may be a faulty brake light switch located on the rear of the brake pedal
