When a strut is worn, what are symptons? How can one diagnose it? KIA Sephia 1998?..

Car jerks a bit left when slowing down sometimes. Engine, CV's,ball joints, rack and pinion, tranny all fine. Front rotors/calipers seem fine. Car takes plenty of effort to steer at speeds below 25 MPH. The jerk has no sound, doesn't come from road ridges/potholes and feels like its in the steering someplace as the steering wheel itself jumps left about 1". The motion is not a big distance but has strong force. Tires are 195/70/14 MuD and Snows and are new. Front end alignment and balance just done on computerized turn-table about 5000 miles ago. Thanks for any suggestions.

Some times you will get a bouncing in wheel ,nose dive in front end when stopping or hard breaking, did you try jacking up car so wheel is just off ground ,put a bar under tire and lift up observe wheel movement ,then do other wheels , if it is a strut the wheel will move up and down freely , look for fluid leaking around strut body ,5000 miles is not much of a factor things do break.the other is get the front end off the ground both wheels,SAFELY !!!!!! WITH THE CAR SHUT OFF WHEELS BLOCKED, have one person turn wheel while you observe it , look for anything wrong grab the wheel and try to move left to right (a small ) motion observe what happens ,is there wiggle ? with out moving steering wheel. if not sure of any of these ,PLEASE take it to a mechanic .hope this helps good luck. SOURCE: Car jerks to left w/no warning

My opinion, not a good car. But that is a different story. It would be easiest to bring the car in for an alignment. The technician will tell you what the car needs to do the alignment. But if you want to do it yourself then you will need to inspect all the steering componants (tie-rods,struts, lower ball joint, wheel bearings, brakes, wheels, tire wear, tread pattern, and tire pressure, and lug nuts (loose or overtightened). Good luck.

Steering rack or tierod/tierod ends may be loose or bent. Steering rack may be worn. Power steering pump may be worn and unable to provide sufficient pressure at low rpm's.

2001 kia sephia if the knock sensor is bad will it make the engine tap ?

It sounds like valve clatter. If you are also noticing black smoke from the exhaust, diminished engine response, etc then it has a faulty valve. I have to be honest. The Kia you have is not known as a good car. It was made before Hyundai took over for quality control. I would seriously consider selling the car while it still runs. I am sorry for this answer, but I own a 2012 Kia Optima and have heard service writer horror stories on the Sephia. Again, I apologize for my recommendation.

My Toyota Camry 1993 has a few problems. First off when I accelerate it jerks back then goes and sometimes when I let off on the gas pedal it will jerk back again as it slows down. Also my gas pedal...

Examine your engine mounts and the 'dogbone' at the top right of the engine. The jerking symptoms you describe do sound like a failed mount. The front lower mount is a hydraulic cushion type, and the chief sign of failure is oil leakage from it.

As to the wobbliness and bumpy ride, that sounds like the front suspension struts need replacement. You need good quality spring compressors to try that job yourself.

It is a crude test, but if you can easily bounce the front corners of the car up and down, and it keeps bouncing when you let go, then the struts are worn out.
