My automatic trans in my Tahoe was shifting real hard and then stopped shifting at all from 2nd to 3rd. This started immediately after I changed my Intake gaskets. Must have messed up something, was working fine before. Any ideas what it could be.

Assuming you have checked your transmission fluid levels, you may require a soft parts rebuild of your transmission, or an adjustment of your upper clutch band
If reverse is ok and it will not upshift even above 40 mph then you probaly have a speed sensor signal problem. If it shifts to 3rd after much delay and skips 2nd then you have a bad shift solenoid. The transmission has 2 shift solenoids and a combination of the solenoids being on or off gives you the different gears. Both solenoids off ir 3rd gear so if you are taking off in third and staying there then either the computer has seen a fault in its onboard diagnostic and shut the power to solenoids putting the trans in limp mode or there is a blown fuse or bad connection.Good luck please vote.
Sounds like your transmission is in limp mode. This is a fault mode in which the
transmission either loses electrical power or the PCM deactivates all of
the electronics. The transmission will default to max line pressure.
The driver will have Reverse and 3rd, with manual 2nd available by
putting the gearshift in 2 or 1 (doesn't matter). 1st, 4th, and TCC
lockup will not be available. It will not hurt the car to drive it like
this for short periods, but use manual 2nd to get the car moving, and be
aware that the trans will generate more heat than normal while
operating in limp-home mode due to increased torque converter slippage
during 2nd gear starts and no lockup in 3rd gear.
The other from what you described, trans shifts 2nd to 3rd by itself in D or OD and locks the converter : ShiftA solenoid failed. Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.
Thank you for using fixya and have your Safari scanned for the DTC codes that would indicate what issues your transmission is having to put you in to limp mode.
a number of issues. Tcc regulator bore worn out, the infamous check ball seat it hammered badly, or/and calibration issues. I have seen all three issues on the same trans - often!
check your rear brake shoes if you had them changed recently they may not have been adjusted properly and that sometimes will cause that and also check the rear diff yoke where the driveshaft goes insometimes it get gear oil on it and harder for it turn. i would try these hints first before i take to shop
you need to replace clutch pack for that gear can be ordered seperately from parts store or dealer if you want to save money call peach street auto recycling at 1800-365-2341 for a warrantied used one! also might be time for change trans filter and fluid filter could be slightly clogged but I lean towards clutch pack I replace these alot on Hondas
