Downshift hesitation? i have a 2000 tahoe (old body style) 5.7 liter. truck seem s to run fine until i go to downshift (pass or sudden acceleration) it will severely hesitate, to the point where it actually will lose MPH! It seems to backfire(can't really tell). if i let off the pedal a bit, and very gradually ease into the pedal, it will regain speed. As a result i dont even bother to pass anymore especially when i LOSE mph in trying to do so? i have replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor and fuel filter. truck has 118,000 miles on it. any and all help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Sounds like a plugged catalytic converter or in rare cases muffler. This will set codes but try this; remove O2 sensor closest to front of catalytic converter, it will be noisy but drive again, if performance is better, suspect plugged catalytic converter, replace cat and reinstall O2. Also check air filter and mas air flow sensor. Have had some luck carefully cleaning sensor with throttle body/air intake cleaner after removing from vehicle with key off. Hope this helps ! Vehicle hesitates when you accelerate .

make sure you have the correct spark plugs(2)check the throttle position sensor on the car,as most people would be driving about with the throttle on the floor car feels fine.but as in normal driving anyone only uses the first half of the pedal and this is where most wear takes place and sometimes causes hesitation when driving.best of luck.
