I turn on the regular headlights when i get into the car. (I am not talking about the automatic running daylights,) If i forget to shut off the headlights when i leave the car, they stay on until the battery is dead. In every other car I've owned, the headlights shut off a short time after i left the car

Have you verified both high beams are in working order? DRL's are very funny about not working if one of the lights is burned out. Rememeber that DRL's are only high beams using 20% of the power so just because your normal lights work, it does not mean the high beams are working correctly.

i would try replacing the switch, i had a 4 runner do the same thing and i replaced the switch and the problem went away.

I have an 03 corolla and in 04 we had this same problem. It was really bad when the temps would dip very low(appeaered to be cold sensitive). I would jump-start the car and let it warm up and the problem would go away. The dealership replaced the module that worked with the sensor(the sensor for the auto headlights) and since then we have not had this problem. Also from my understanding there was a manufacturers release on this, but not a recall. Hope this helps.

There is a knob beside the headlights under the hood, fairly good sized, looks like rubber and you can manually turn down your headlights. That happened to my 86 Supra last year and the sync was just off and once I turned them down they started working perfectly. Hope this helps
