Hi, We have 2005 Dodge grand caravan and have a sticky gas pedal issue. When the van was stopped at a light, it stalled and refused to go above 10 mph. After the van was pulled over, stopped, and few minutes later gas pedal was OK and accelerated normally. Please advise on where to look? Is it the accelerator/gas cable? Or, the throttling system? Anything I can do before I take it to a mechanic! What would be a typical cost for cable replacement and what am I looking at (the cost) if it is related to throttling system. Thanks for your insightful comments!
Unless you're actually feeling resistance in the gas pedal, it probably isn't the throttle cable. This can also be easily checked by having someone lightly feather the gas pedal, and inspecting the throttle body to see if the linkage responds as soon as the pedal gets depressed. Beyond that it could be a range of mechanical or electrical issues. Hard to say where to start. If the rpm's spiked when depressing the gas pedal, but the car just wouldn't go faster, I'd start by checking the tramission fluid level.
Inspect the cable to the throttle control mechanism under the hood? All all the cables in their proper tracks? Are any cables wrapped the wrong direction, or out of the in-line track?
