Hi. My in-laws have a 2004 Ford Focus with a 2L single cam that has me stumped. They are complaining of a noise/vibration when the car is cold. If the car is in park and idling it sounds all right with no detectable vibration or noise. Standing outside the car they can move the car with no noticable noise of vibration if you get in the car and push on the gas pedal (doesn't matter if it is in park or drive or reverse) you feel it vibrating and and it sounds like something is hitting the frame. When the car warm up it goes away. They had it at an exhaust shop and they didn't see anything. one mechanic says they need new motor mounts and another mechanic tried to move the mounts and says they are ok. When I had the car running and I pushed on the gas pedal the motor didn't seem to have any excessive movement. Anybody have any ideas?
Need engine treatment fluid, steering fluid needs to be fill, needs oil change for the better running condition, and lastly replace the belts and put some noise decreaser on some parts where the belts while running hope this helps...
I have an 04 zts and mine used to make a lot of noises like you have and I had a bad motor mount on passenger side.Replaced it and no more rattles like that

SOURCE: My 2003 Ford Focus started making a grinding noise
Check the front engine mount..If its bad it could make a noise while turning or reverse..Hold the car in gear with your foot on the brake and carefully raise the engine ..do it in both reverse or forward and look for excessive movement..
Testimonial: "The problem was the upper engine mount. It took me about 20 minutes to replace it, grinding went away. Thanks for the info."

Check the pcv hose that connects to the intake manifold. They get soft and collapse. This will cause a vibration too. Check while it is running.

Hi, High-pitched sound is usually a belt - unlike nearly everything else, rubber expands when cold and shrinks when warm, so after start, noise goes away. Please check the bellow link:- http://www.ehow.com/list_7223257_causes-vibration-cold-truck-engine_.html Please accept the solution if it's helpful. Do get back to us for any further query.
Open hood, have someone else start, and you look/listen for noise to pinpoint.
Could be just an adjustment.
