Wind chill -35 deg..... went to start, cranked a couple of times, drained battery trying, jumped battery (cables on correct), cranked twice then nothing. Replaced battery (original) correctly, no ignition. Is there a fuse I blown trying to jump? New battery, have lights ect. No starter. Any help on what to check would be appreciated.
Found 1 dead mouse in trap in garage this morning, reinstalled starter, replaced ignition switch, no crank- investigated fus box under hood further, found full bird seed. looked at wiring below box and bingo four chewed wires one wire chewed in half! Problem solved!

No noise, click, nothing. All lights light up on dash.
getting a click out of under hood fuse box, not sure if its the starter relay fuse or ignition fuse. can these be tested? They are not "sight" check fuses, they are fully encased.
problem solved..bad starter.....Thanks all for your ideas to check for.
I have the same problem, but have replaced the starter, Battery, Battery Cables and have been blowing heaters under my car just incase it was frozen up as everyone keeps telling me... The Car turns over and acts as if it wants to crank but, just doesn't.
went to start my 01 Cruiser automatic and no grind no cranking nothing just a "dead. key". I have lights, chimes, radio ect. also strong headlights. Replaced original battery and checked all fuses and relays. Removed starter (fun) and had tested (good) Thinking of trying the ignition starter switch next.Car sat unused about two weeks in my garage now I need it to run. Any other ideas?
One thing why is there no underhood map in the manual of the 01 pt crusier... For how much you think you spend on cars there would be a map- But having the same problem, I know its the starter, But trying to find it in the Pt Crusier under the hood is a nightmare.. Can Anyone help me-
next step try changig those relays or it might e the starter cyliniod
does it make any noise while turning the key over? or is there anything elseyou might be able to tell me ?
When I first turn the key, the tachometer jumps to about 8000 and begins jumping around. The starter fails to engage. If you go straight to crank, the car will turn over until the tachometer hits 8000 and then the starter quits.
Car has new cam sensor, timing belt, water pump and idler and tensioner pullys and new head. The car is in time.
Problem started when we put on the new head.
Car is a PT Cruiser with a 2.4l engine.
Anybody have a clue?
NOTHING LIGHTS UP
