The problem could also be your radiator cap and you need to make sure that you don,t have an air bubble in the system you also have to have the right amount of anti freeze in it but try the cap first seems so simple but it is a good possibility. hope this helps

Ive got a 98 chevy k1500 with a 5.7 vortec the heater blows out cold air.. and the temp gauge goes sporadic going to 260 back down to 120 then stays steady at 210 then back to 260 then back down... ive...

You may two problems and one symptom. you may have a blend door problem that is not allowing air to circulate threw the heater core. also you may have a bad connection or weak coolant temp sensor showing you erratic readings and it may have nothing with the heat in the vehicle. you need to eliminate or separate the one of the the problems to diagnose your one symptom.

1998 Ford Explorer: No heat. Checked everything and can't find the problem. New thermostat was installed. still no heat.

take out the glove box, you will see a white box about 3 inchs square with wires pulged into it, this is the diverter control, take the screws out, and remove it, then see if you cand move the diverter by hand too get heat, if you can then you need too replace the control or just lock the diverter in the heat position, i had this same problem last week in a 98 explorer and liked too never found it , ive got heat now!!!

SOUNDS LIKE YOUR THERMOSTAT IS STICKING,REPLACE THERMOSTAT FIRST OVERHEATING WILL DAMAGE ENGINE.IF THAT DOSEN'T WORK HAVE WATER PUMP CHECKED.FANS WON'T TURN ON IF HEAT FROM ENGINE IS NOT FLOWING INTO RAD BECAUSE THEROMOSTAT STUCK CLOSED,OR WATER PUMP FAILING
