Hard shifting of transmission

I have a 2004 ES330 w/53,000 miles. I took it in for service at about 50,000 miles because the transmission sometimes would shift hard. Sometimes it was hard enough to **** the car othertimes just a mild thump. It happened sparadoically.

Lexus tech. said it was prob w/software that was suppose to learn and adapt to driver. i am the only driver and have not changed my driving habits.

You need to get another opnion from Lexus. The transmission shouldn't shift like that and it isn't a software issue. This could be a warrenty issue or a recall issue. I would take it to a diffrent dealer.

What causes the transmission to shift VERY hard even after having the trans serviced

The shift solenoid(s) are defective or incorrectly installed or the TCU has to be reprogrammed to accept the new solenoids. If nothing was replaced the TCU has to be recalibrated.

Car shifts hard (up & down), especially shifting to reverse.

that delayed reaction may be the transmission slipping. with those many miles it could be the transmission going bad

04 nissan sentra shifting hard

Do you have a CVT? (Continuosly Variable Transmission) I doubt that you do so if you dont, nissans are known to have hard shift into second gear you mean.(Once the car moves, its already in first gear) so if it shifts fine into other gears, I wouldnt worry too much unless it gets worse.

2004 Impala - 115,000 miles - has intermittent hard shifts

The dealer should know this! The EPC solenoid (controls pressure) hangs up with wear and causes the harsh shifts.

Transmission sometimes shifts hard into next gear.

I would check the transmission and engine mounts but also it may be time for a transmission fluid change. It has a service interval just like oil. 50000 miles
