I am having an issue where my fuel gauge is not accuratly reporting the correct amount of gas in the tank. At times, it will show nothing in the tank (at which point the electronic miles to empty will also show 0 miles). Other times it will show a level, but it is not the correct level (such as when I fill the tank, it will not go all the way to the full line). I have taken into a shop and they indicated I need the fuel pump (??) assembly replaced which acutally resides in the tank and it includes the fuel gauge sensor. Quoted me around $800 to repair. Wondering if this is truly the problem, or perhaps something else could be happening.
Check online in other forums of this particular issue. Others may have had the same issue and have found answers through other sites online. Sound like a bad sending unit "fuel gauge sensor". Unfortunatly, it may be a requirement to remove the fuel tank to gain access to this fuel sensor. If you dont have the means to repair this problem you can always keep track by the mileage that you put on your vehicles tripometer. I know thats a pain but it wont cost you any money until you choose to have the repair done.Estimate your mpg's and the size of your fuel tank by the gallons, and multiply the two. Be sure to keep track and have enough fuel not to run out! Its always better to keep half a tank than an eighth of a tank!
