Rear Door seal water leak

2001 Toyota Sienna leaks along the top of the rear Door seal. Leak tested with hatch (door) open and running water along the gasket and water seeps into the back of the Sienna from under the floorboard. I ran a bead of silicon along the gasket and water tested again when it dried - no leak. I thought the purpose of the gasket was to keep rain water out when the door is closed. Is it normal to leak behind the gasket (between the body of the car and the gasket) in through the floor board? Should I replace the gasket or will the silicon be enough?

I have a Sienna 2001.

I've had the wet floor carpets for almost 2 years.

I have checked and rechecked all the doors rubber seals (weather stripping). There isn't a no sunroof.

I almost yanked out all the side plastic boards.

I just found the source of the leak last Sunday.

The High-mounted (3rd) REAR LIGHT (red) above the rear windshield had faulty rubber seals. The seals soaks water and allows water to drip into the inner boot lining. The water this seeps through the boot panel and flows under the carpet in the boot. With heavy rainfall/water it soaks the underlay and gets up the driver and front passenger foot-well.

I couldnt get a repalcement seal on a Sunday, I had to create a "gasket" replacement froma rubber carpet for the light assembly and ensured I screwed it on tight.

I yanked out the upper (inner) plastic of the boot door and the dripping I noticed earlier stopped when I poured water on the light assembly.

I hope this helps.

Yeah my 2001 Sienna rear door seal leaks also.
Test it buy placing a hose without the nozzle on the roof facing the closed door. Turned it full on. Remove trim at bottom of the door ( i also removed all the carpet and seats), while inside with a flashlight you should know within 2-5 minutes.

Mine was bad, unfortunately i can't find another exact seal without going to the dealer $$$. the after market seals/weather striping, are too generic IMO.
I don't think silicon will do it long term, it tends to not stay attached to soft material like rubber... Replacing the seal is a better long term... :(

If silicon is working,I would go with it,silicone last a long time and it's working.

SOURCE: there is a water leak

Your A/C drain hose may be plugged. If so, the condensate from the A/C box will leak onto the floor, and eventually soak the rear carpet as well. This is a common issue. It is under the glove box, close to the passenger floor. Remove it and make sure that it is open. Alos, always run the A/C in the RECIRC mode.

Water in the trunk can be from a bad trunk seal or poorly sealed taillamp seams

SOURCE: there is a water leak

This would be your Heater core. They are very cheap to purchase but not so easy to put in since you have to drop the underneath of the dashboard out and aslo have to remove the lines from inside the engine compartmnet. The water goes from the radiator through the heater core to produce the heat for your heater. You should check your radiator or overflow bottle and if the water level is low then this is definetly your problem. This is the most logical, however there could but unlikely be a leak from your windshield. The heator core is located exactly where you say the water is coming from. After reading more does this happen more times other then when it is raining?

SOURCE: 2002 Toyota RAV4 passenger side floor Water

Hi, we also have a 2002 Toyota Rav4 and developed a leak in the front driver's side of the car. After much research, we discovered that the drain wells from our sun/moon roof were clogged. If you have one of these, I suggest that you open the sun roof and look carefully. You will notice some tiny little holes in front and in the rear of the sun/moon roof tracks. Over time, these become clogged with dust and debris. You need to find a long, sturdy piece of thin wire and run it down the holes. To test if you have properly unclogged these, take a small amount of water and pour it down the holes. You should see water coming out of the drain wells under the car around the rear of the front tires. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Rear door

Here's a link to the detailed instructions for this repair. It's not too difficult, just a little tedious dealing with small parts.
Good luck!

1995 Chev Tahoe 4 door. Water in rear cargo area near the rear doors. It leaks if I pour water over the rear of the roof near the top of the rear doors. All weather stripping on doors is in tact....

Check and make sure seals are even not warped. Check for rust around the are where it's leaking. If you have a compressor with a blow gun blow along the area where the water is leaking in. If you feel air coming through the area check and make sure the weather stripping is sealing properly. Doors could be out of alignment as well causing the leak. Or door seals could be rotting out.

2001 toyota sienna water leak inside rear door seal

For water leaking inside the rear door panel, I'll suggest you check and replace the black rubber/foamy seal that is part of the high-mounted-rear light assembly.
It gets weak over time and soaks water, thereby allowing water seep into the booth lining and also into the underlay of the carpet.
If you have a cracked rear-light (the one attached to the boot hatch), you may also get a leak.
Change this rubber seal/ gasket. I used an old rubber carpet to make a gasket to fit the light assembly, and it stopped the leakage.
Hope this helps.

My 2005 ford frestar is leaking water in the back hatch are and was wondering were it might be coming from

I had water coming into the rear storage area. Finally found where it the leak was. The plastic panel on which the license plate mounts was leaking around the panel allowing water to run down onto a little ledge area and the enter the rear storage well at the left rear corner of the storage well. I have tightened the nuts that hold the panel against the gasket and if that does not stop it, I will loosen it an put clear silicone seal around the pane. It was hard to figure out! I had to remove the rear trim to see where the leak was. Hope this might help.

Water in cargo area

I have the same problem and I just bought this car! Very frustrating as I bought the extended toyota warranty and am being told water leaks aren't covered under warranty. If you figure out where the leak is coming from please email me at [email protected]. My leak only happens when it rains very, very hard. Is yours this way too?

Water leak right side kickpanel when it rains water runs down right side kick panel runs through door tray.

check seals around the door and the body where door closes, also check where windshield ends and firewall starts, could be small leak around any hoses or lines that go thru firewall, such as heater hoses and screw holes where parts are attached

Water keeps filling up under passenger seat in rear of car

My 2001 passat did the same thing. my leak was coming from the door panel. Open your door and use a water hose to simulate rain water running against your window. Water should run into door and drain out of several drain holes at the very bottom of your door. Check for water leaking from the bottom of your plastic door panel. The water runs down into the door and leaks through your inner door panel seal causing water to leak inside from the bottom of your door panel and run into the floorboard instead of draining out the water hole in the bottom of your door.

There is a water leak somewhere in my 98 toyota camry that leaks into my passenger side floor. There is no sun roof and no visible leaks from the windows or doors. Any thoughts? A/C leak maybe? water...

I am the original owner of camry xle 1998 with wet floors. In 2000 I had drivers side door seal leaking at welt. Removed old door seal and new weather strip on drivers side installed. The door panel was never wet, but wet at bottom of door where there are drain holes...slowly leaking under carpet.
In 2001 later water again. Coming from overflowing A/C evaporator-drain plugged/ tank full of debris. Removed evaporator, cleaned + drain cleaned.
In 2003, driver door seal against window rotted. Removed door panel and found leak at window belt molding at the mirror joint inside + out. Lots of mold under carpet needed to replace! Made a fuss at dealers for reacurring problem and they replaced the carpet for free.
