I just bought a used parking brake assembly. The used brake cable was cut outside the mechanism, leaving the coupling. I cannot figure out how to detach the very tip of the cut-off end of the cable from the "new" assembly, and then attach the tip of the existing cable. The tip is next to the mainspring. HELP! Thank you. I can be emailed at [email protected]. Thank you! * David

You have a shorted engine harness, this is not common but it does happen, heat and engine movement cause damage to the harness, this is most common on hi miler cars and vans, the only way to fix it is to start by looking anywhere the harness rubs, that is where the damage occurs.

You can replace just the cam sensor, I've done it, but it's kind of a delicate job. You have take apart the distributor to do it, it's not hard to do, you just have to have a little mechanical aptitude. If he's intimidated by this type of thing, you can always get a used one. I think I could probably buy a whole van for $1200.

Get the "Shop" to come back out to fix it or sue the *** off them for leaving you with a dangerous car.
No handbrake is an offence !!!

Follow-up: After 11 hours toiling away, I gave up. Take it to a pro and save
yourself a lot of grief. It's bolted to the sidewall with no apparent
way to get to it. I bought a hinged socket and that didn't work.
Jostling it finally got it to work "sometimes," just enough to get an
inspection sticker. I buttoned it up after that. I am not used to failing at stuff like this.
