1991 toyota tercel.
.we need to change belt for Alternator ( no problem
here), but first we need to take off the belt that is used for power
steering pump. which of the 3 pulleys that this one belt is on do we
uses to slack of tension
For The Power Steering Pump Belt Removal Loosen The Adjuster And Pivot Bolts And Remove The Belt.
The Pivot Is Located Right Between The Two Pulleys For The Power Steering.
For The Alternator Which You Said Is Easy But Just In Case I'll Provide. On Most Models You Remove The Adjustment And Pivot Bolts. Remove All Three And You Should Be Free
Look for the pully with nothing connected to it! this will adjust the tension!
You should be able to loosen the lower bolt on the Alternator, and the other bolt across from it. This will allow you to pull the alternator in allowing removal of the belt.
The pulley that doesn't appear to drive anything is the tensioner
Robert
Its the middle one pulley that you need to sort out first to get access and carry on the work further.

Okay....then just how do you back off the tension.. The alternator belt ajustment is very noticeable..
the other has 3 pulleys one at bottom runs both belts....other runs power steering.. then the 3rd which I am thinking is the tension pully..but just what do I do here..can't see anything from the top but from under the car just looks like a pully with a very shallow bolt head in the middle
I love working on my cars but never done a double belted car
Thanks

I found the Answer..THANKS to Toyota them selves.
...first you raise front of car up and block safely.. and don't for get to block your back wheels
then crawl under and look up to where the power steering pump is and you will see a adjusting bold on the motor with a slide to the power steering pump..
.loosen it and then you will also see another a threaded type screw... turn it as far as it will let you and what this does is pulled down your power steering pump and then you take off that belt
so now I put on the alternator belt ( the one I needed to change) and then replace the power steering belt back on and repeat the process back wards to take it off....
so simple
I need to replace the tension pulley for the power steering pump. Do you have any simple instructions/ things to look out for?
Thanks
