There is a squealing and clicking noise behind the dashboard. The noise continues after the the engine has shut down and the key has been removed. I got back in the car this morning and it was still making that noise. (fyi - temps have gotten into the 30s at night). The clicking remains the same no matter the speed I run the engine. I keep imagining that the sound might be coming from behind the radio, but can not be positive. There's some element of "woosh" to the sound. The squeal stops periodically, but the click remains constant. Best guesses thus far are something to do with a heating fan AND/OR a power relay? Thoughts?

next time that happens... have him turn the key while someone else smack the starter with a hammer (not hard enough to break the case). it should start... if it does replace the starter as it is failing... the clicking you hear are the relays ... semi normal sound

it's one of the blend door actuator for the blower ducts and you have to get under the dash and locate witch one is doing it then either replace it or unplug it till you can replace it. but it will not work until you replace it.

If you have a tape cassette player in the dash, this can cause a sound like what you are describing. Even though a tape is not in it,,, it can still freak out and cause this sound. Had this happen on several of my old vehicles. Let us know if this helps. Leave feedback for others to see. Thanks.

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. A relay wouldn't cause your lights to go out, but it could cause your vehicle to not start. First, check all your fuses. Make sure none are blown. Next, check the battery. Make sure it is good. Don't guess at it. A bad battery can cause all of this. Check your connections, battery terminals, wires, and post. Look for damage and clean the post and battery ends with a wire brush. A bad connection will cause the same issues. Whenever you hear a clicking noise, it is usually traced back to the battery. If it was doing nothing, it would point to the starter or ignition, Since it clicks, I believe it is a bad battery, connection, or your alternator. You need to test the battery and alternator. Try to have someone jump your vehicle over and see if it starts. If it won't, the battery may be shot or it is the connection or alternator. It should be one of the three.
