With heat on high setting the fans blows hot for a while then cold then hot.
The resistor controls fan speed, not temp.
If the heat comes and goes, it could be the thermostat, or the radiator could be low on coolant, or have air pockets, or one of the blend doors may not be working correctly.
The blend doors direct air thru the heater core and the vents.
Hi Stephen,
Hi Stephen, it appears that your suggestion to check the coolant was the solution. The owner of the van is handicapped and she takes her van to a Jiffy Lube loction to have the oil changed reguallry. I asked her about the coolant and hse siad they top off all the liquids in the van every time they do oil changes. I checked the coolant myself and dicovered that it was low. I put collant in about a gallon of coolant which solved the problem. Oddly, there were no leaks. The van is kept in a garage whne not in use and there was no liquid on the floor of her garage. I guess the Jiffy Lube guys don't check all the fluids after all. Thnaks for your help.
Glad you were able to solve the issue. Keep in mind, the coolant has to go somewhere. So if there are no external leaks, the engine is burning it. It could have a small leak on one of the head gaskets. Someone needs to keep an eye on the coolant and the other fluids.

Have you checked the coolant level? If it's low, it will result in diminished heat, and could be the problem.

did you check the fluid level by removing the rad. cap? Radiator should be full to top. If Chryslers are low on coolant, the heater will not blow warm air.

I would tend to go with resistor even though it usually ends up with high only, when they start to act up. As long as motor wasn't showing signs of getting worn out prior to this.

Need a new blower motor resistor. Check under hood on firewall, on passenger side under cowl, behind strut tower area is usual spot. If not may be on housing/ducting under dash on passenger side near blower motor.

sounds like a restriction in the coolant bypass and or heater core. you will want to check if both sides of the heater core hose near the firewall are hot on both sides if so you have an issue with the air ducts but if not then you may have a failing heater control valve or a restriction.
