2002 ford windstar engine revs up but won't go forward or in reverse. The trans fluid isn't low but needs is dark. Will changing it most likely fix the problem or is it probably something more serious?
SOURCE: no reverse, forward gears work fine whats the fix?
HI. the most important issue here is to make sure the transmission fluid is at a optimal level. If the fluid level is good, it can be another problem that is causing this disruption. The second place i would check would be the transmission shift cable and linkage. if you have some play in the shifter, this could be the issue. the linkage and cable may need to be adjusted. The last problem spot with this tranny could be bad or malfunctioning shift solenoids. these devices receive signals from the emc that initiates the shift action once you use the shifter. if one of these solenoids are malfunctioning, it can cause a disruption of normal shifting. i would check these areas.
please rate and god bless...

sorry to tell you i dont think its a sensor. but i think the transmission will need a rebuild. write me a mesg and let me know how many miles it has on it and also smell the tranny fluid and see if it has a pundgent smell

With high mileage automatic transmissions, that have not been regularly replacing the transmission oil, it can cause major problems if you do change the oil. The sealing integrity in the valve block can be lost by flushing with new oil,
Firstly, just check and make sure the oil level is correct. Do this by running the engine, with your foot on the brake, go through all the shift positions 2-3 times, holding in those positions for a few seconds each time. Then put into park , still with the engine running, and check the oil level . if its a little low, add a small amount at a time till you get the correct level, each time going through the shift positions and then checking.

Has the transmission ever had any services done? Its possible it has just gone out. There are clutches and bands inside and without proper service they will go out.
Testimonial: "Thanks, I will be taking it in to service the trany (rebuild)."
