My turn signals went out in my 1990 Isuzu Trooper. Found a blown fuse that also is for the reverse lights. I replaced the fuse and found that when I put the truck in reverse the fuse would again blow. I checked the reverse light bulbs and removed them to find the problem still persisted. I am thinking there might be a short in the reverse switch (manual transmission). If this is the case, how do I determine and how do I find it to fix?
If im not mistaken, under the car on the tranny you should find the switch, youll have to consult a manual for the exact location. it should be on the drivers side, look for a bump with wires coming out of it. i was haveing the same problem with my 1985 trooper. i found that the switch was partially unplugged and causing a short, thus blowing the fuse. follow the wires until you find a connection. see if it is unplugged. if not, then check the cotinuity of the switch with a multitester. it may be a bad switch

Possibly an internal failure of the reverse switch. The blown fuse is for both the reverse and the turn signal lights. The fix is replacement of the reverse switch.
if the lights not working check the fuse with a test light, if they appeared to be good remove the bulb and find a good ground to clip your test light with the pointed end of the test light touch the center led witch should be positive if it dont light up check the ground then the wires it self there may be a short or a bad ground and change the bulb if you cant see weather its good or bad and sometime you have to scrape inside or twist the bulb i hope you get some results
I had the same Problem with my 1994 Trooper. I was smoking (painting with translucent black paint) my taillights, and when i put the back in, the reverse lights didnt work. In a seemingly unrelated problem, my gearshift indicator strip on the dash would only stay in park. The solution is that there is a sensor that measures gear shift position on the transmission, that relays the power to the reverse lights when reverse is selected. This sensor turned out to be corroded through and the wires surrounding it had corroded from the inside out. I recently got that replaced, and the problem was solved.
Check for power and ground on the backside of the light socket. Possible broken wire somewhere. Also look for corrosion (green death) at the tabs that make contact with the bulbs.
There is a switch that is located above the brake pedal. It is called a brake senden switch. Make sure that it hasn't just lost contact with the brake pedal, that can happen, if it is bad, then it is a cheap fix
Manual gearbox: check on right hand side of gearbox. There's an electrical switch(looks like large nut nut) with 2 wires coming out of it These wires have connectors toward the top of the gearbox, diconnect them. The wires that this switch was connected to, conect them to each other. ie the reverse light switch has been bypassed. Put the vehicle in reverse. Turn on the ignition. DO NOT START. Check the reverse lights. If on the switch is faulty and needs to be replaced. If not measure the voltage across each of the wires and a good earth point. (Gearbox casing will do fine. ) One of the wires should read < 12V. If 12V then
Globes are faulty(Replace)
wiring to the globes are faulty - unlikely -(This can be repaired by simply running a new wire to the globes)
If no 12V then the wiring to the fusebox is faulty. A quick fix is to run a new wire from the fusebox to the switch(Connect to fuse C-3, indicated as "turn, back")
My brake lights are out, the back, reverse, and head lights all work. My steering is fine as well as my brakes. But the warning lights for brake and ABS light up on my dash board
usually only 2 places it can be,,,under the car near the gear shift.....or under the centere consol inside the car, where the gear shift is, need to remove part of the centre consol to get to it
