1999 ford windstar 3.8L engines runs rough with code p0453

Bought this Van with flywheel broken (replaced) after replacing flywheel found fuel pump inop.(replaced) as fuel filter and spark plugs and replaced broken starter solenoid. engine starts and run but idle runs rough went to library and look at some books (windstar 3.8l ,2000) and base problem from it. replaced iac, evr valve, check egr ok no leak, replaced MAF still engine shake. Re-check and re-tighted subframe bolts. still seems like a vacuum leak somewhere or is it something else. used a bottle of stp gas treatmet to clean the system but no dice. any ideas of what could be my problem ?

154.000+,3.8L six cyl.,front wheel drive. what do you think of a timing belt ? is it rubber or chain type? thinking of may be its worn do you think. just started it today engine lite comes on again, idle rpm is fine about 900 on park and 600-800rpm on drive and reverse. it will die on cold start unless you give it some gas untill its warmed up. and still shakes

it has a chain, and it is good for a million miles. the RPms are suppose to be a little higher in drive, and now I think I found it . you said it needs to warn up to run good. that is a bad idle air control valve ford has a lot of problems with them

i will try to change the iac again maybe the one i replace was also bad. I will keep you inform. thanks

  • Anonymous Dec 18, 2012

good evening Mr. Ted. I replaced the iac again and No Dice still engine shakes as the whole body. bought a bottle lucas fuel system treatment and reb-up rpm to 3000 rpm for several min. and notice of a sligth change of smoothness to the engine and then roughness came back. the auto parts man from advantage auto says that it takes a couple of bottle to clean the system up. I will keep you inform as how the van is doing in a couple of full tank if it cures the problem. however code 453 (high presure input) could not be completely erase as its keep coming on every time i start the engine. May your chrismas be marry as mine.

1999 Ford Windstar problem starting

I'd clean the MAF sensor and maybe replace the fuel filter.
When you get it running again, put a can of the best fuel system cleaner in the tank and run it a while.
Anytime you disconnect the battery the computer relearns your driving habits the next few times you run it. It might even run a little rough the first few miles.
Also, run that stored(old) gas out and then refill with quality Marathon or Shell.

95 ford windstar fuelmpump not pumping replaced it and still no start

Was the fuel pump new? When this much work is involved never use salvage parts. The fuel pump run function is interlocked with engine oil pressure sensor to indicate engine is running. On initial startup the fuel pump run is momentary to prime the injectors. Your problem is probably the oil pressure sensor or sending unit

1999 Windstar will not start, any ideas?

The first and most common is to check the fuelpump, if you have a preasure gauge check the preasure while cranking the engine, you can also turn key on and listen for humming noise from tank to see if pump is working. ive found that if one person trys starting the van while at the same time you beat on botoom of the center of the gas tank this shakes the fuel pump and van starts this means the pump is bad, give it a try. must beat while someone is cranking. NOTE; use rubber hammer.

1996 Ford Windstar Van 3.8 engine, cranks but but start. I Checked all the Fuses, all good seems to have NO fire

sounds like a fuel issue, you can get a can of wd-40 and spray it into the intake and see if wants to start, if it does then it is a process of fuel line, fuel filter, or fuel pump. Hope this helps Tim
