SOURCE: 1991 toyota pickup fuel and temp gauges dont work

You might have a bad ground. According to my Haynes manual's wiring diagram, both gauges share the same ground and typically that is "located on the left side of the instrument panel", wherever that is. Sorry I can't be more specific about the location. While it may not be true on your vehicle (the wiring diagram states "typical late model" in its description), my wiring diagram says that the ground wire is Brown (BR). You might try locating that wire and track it to its attachment point. You also might try tapping into it and using a continuity tester and ground out the wire to metal (there's plenty of grounding points under there). Make sure the ignition key is off!! There might be a bad ground wire closer to the meters than the attachment point. Hope this is helpful. Allow plenty of time if you're going to investigate this yourself. Do you have other gauges? Do they work? I think that all of the gauges are ganged through the same fuse (but not through the same ground wire). You might consider checking the fuse to ensure that it's OK. Your owners manual that came with the truck will tell you which fuse is it. If there are other things on the same fuse and they work, it's not the fuse. I hope that this is helpful.

SOURCE: 1990 toyota corolla, fuel/temperature gauges not working.

If you are handy with small hand tools and a Volt/Ohm meter then it would be worth a try to check the problem, older cards the fuel guage is problematic. In the tank in a wire wound resistor connected to the float in the tank, every time you change the fuel lever the wiper rubs the wires and over time it either breaks or gets coated with crud, it requires removing the sensor from the tank and cleaning it. To test however you can follow the wires to the tank and remove the connector, if you have a fuel pump in the tank then you will need to check the wiring diagram for the correct wires and colors. You then measure the resistance across the two wires for the sensor, open circuit means the part will require removel and repair, anything from zero to about 120 means it is probably working, you can also short the wires going back to the gauge and turn on the ignition switch but don't start the car, if it read full then remove the short and it should read empty, the gauge is working. Temp gauge same process just the sensor is under the hood, same process measure resisitance. If you are going to try this yourself I suggest a service manual from your local parts store. If you choose to then take it to a mechanic you already know what to expect. I don't suggest removing a fuel tank alone, it requires jacking up the card and having something to raise and lower the tank. You are working with flamable liquids and you can be seriously injured or killed. Take care folow instructions and you will be fine. Wish it were simpler but this is what a mechanic is going to do as well.

I have a Toyota Hilux 2KD but having a problem with the cluster on fuel gauge and temperature gauge?

If you are having a problem with the fuel gauge and temperature gauge on your Toyota Hilux 2KD, there could be several possible causes. Some potential reasons for this issue include:
  • A faulty or damaged cluster: The cluster is the instrument panel on your vehicle that houses the gauges and displays important information such as the fuel level and engine temperature. If the cluster is faulty or damaged, it may not be able to accurately display the readings from the gauges.
  • A faulty or damaged fuel level sensor: The fuel level sensor is responsible for measuring the amount of fuel in the tank and sending that information to the cluster. If the sensor is faulty or damaged, it may not be able to accurately measure the fuel level and the gauge may not display the correct reading.
  • A faulty or damaged temperature sensor: The temperature sensor is responsible for measuring the engine temperature and sending that information to the cluster. If the sensor is faulty or damaged, it may not be able to accurately measure the temperature and the gauge may not display the correct reading.
In order to diagnose and fix the problem, it is recommended to have the vehicle assessed by a qualified mechanic. They will be able to diagnose the specific cause of the issue and recommend the appropriate repair. It is important to address any issues with the gauges on your vehicle promptly, as they can affect the safety and performance of your vehicle.

You take it to a qualified repair shop , no reset . They will hook up a factory scan tool an check fuel level sensor input data to the PCM- engine computer an input to instrument cluster . The sending unit in the fuel tank could be bad or the instrument cluster gauge is . GM had problems with stepper motors inside the instrument cluster , these stepper motors control the gauge ,fuel , temp , etc... 2003 to 2006

Guages not working,

If all voltages checked ok,then most probably its faulty instrument cluster board on which gauges are connected.Yes if cluster circuit board looks ok,then also it can be faulty.Somewhere there is minute short or burn on board then such prolem arises.
Also check the fuse box.One under hood and other under dash.Inspect each and every fuse and see if all are fine or not.

Fuel and temp gauges are maximum

I've heard that this problem is caused by the voltage regulator inside the cluster failing. You can replace the whole cluster or save money by changing only the regulator if you have the technical know-how (or a friend) to do so.

Toyota must know about this common problem so it would be interesting to hear if they got back to you. Since it's obviously a design fault, they should fix it free of charge. You're unlikely to see that happen though!
