Just bought new battery. Car will give one short chug to try and start but won't turn over. Lights and electrical all are working.

Lights were left on and car battery died. Thirty minutes and about 20 miles of highway driving it had an incident where all electrical went out while the car was slowing down onto an onramp. Moving a battery cable restored lights and radio, wouldn't start again until jumped with cables.Six weeks later after a day of driving and making several stops car has trouble starting. At next destination it died. A jump start got it home and a new battery was installed the next day. Problem today was one week after new battery purchase.

Check all fuses ,wiring anywhere short or check alternatour

  • desertracer May 10, 2014

Check the connection of the Negative battery cable to the engine block and at the battery post. 2, Check the connection of the positive battery cable to the starter. 3. check the wire on the starter solonide that comes from the ign. switch. I would bet the original problem was a corroded or loose battery cable. you might have to remove the cable connections from the engine and from the starter and clean the connectors. It might be as simple as the wire from ign to starter is disconnected or broken or corroded its could be just a push on connection..

ok; first your car probably has a "rollover switch" this is usally located in the trunk on the right side it can cause this problem but, in your case I think the ground cable that grounds your engine is the culprit check on the engine block for a bolt with a large braided cable that fastens to the frame or sheetmetal of your car remove the bolt(s) and scrape away the paint, grease etc. and, rebolt (the radio is grounded seperately) the gages, lights on dash and, the engine ignition MUST be grounded to the frame to work.

Hi. This issue has several causes, but the oil light indicator is a strong sign of low pressure in the engine. This will cause the engine lubrication rate to drop, thus, producing a illuminated oil light, and erratic Oil pressure readings. The necessary actions are to have a manual oil pressure test ran on this engine, asap. When running a manual oil pressure test, you will discover if the true oil pressure is low, or normal. If the test proves that the oil pressure is, indeed, low, this will confirm that the Oil pump is suspect.

Now, if the true readings given during the manual oil pressure test are indicating that the pressure is normal, this will be the result of a failed sending unit(oil pressure switch). Although the oil pressure is suspect, this is not your only issue here. There seems to be a abnormal compression rate, present. This is causing the rough idle, and erratic RPMs. I recommend to administer a engine block compression test, as well. This test will discover if , indeed, there are issues within the cylinder heads, and block structure, such as a worn head gasket, cylinder wall issues, and cracked block. Normally, these issue will send signs, like white, or gray smoke out the tail pipe, or discolored oil. It will, also, promote erratic RPM ratings, and a rough idle. Have the oil pressure test, and engine block compression test ran, asap.

Once the test are administered, you will be able to isolate the actual problem areas, more accurately. Check the spark plug wire sets, and ignition assembly for faults, also.

I tried to start my car this morning. There was no electricity at all and i mean at all, The power locks won't even work nothing. The car won't start, it's perfectly silent when you turn

You would need to use a meter or test light to find out what exactly is dead. It could be a short in the fuse box, or a bad connection in the harness, or at the battery or starter.
You may need a repair book or shop manual to get the wiring diagrams.
If nothing on the truck works, you would start at the battery cables and work back to the key switch.

the real question,is there 12v exiting the fuse, the acid test. that.
any volt meter does that in 5min flat.
3rd brake light is bad bulb or corroded socket.
what tranny< 3,4,5,sp.? but in each case it takes a good rev.
switch, if 12v enters said switch and does not exit, its bad.
0v bad,6v rev. path shorted to ground,12v good.
btw, all clamps can short, try 1 new one. in each path all by lonesome. dig?
bulbs good means what.
1: look good.
2: glow when placed on a 12v battery

Does this car have any electrical power? Check the 'Main' fuse in the box under the hood. It could also be listed at 'BATT' or 'ALT' fuse. If the car has no electrical power and you know the battery is good, make sure the cables aren't hooked up backwards. Try these things and let us know if it works.

Car won't start...radio and lights and heater all work..can hear a buzzing sound by the starter,,,has a fairly new battery,,,,,

Have the battery tested and check battery posts for corosion. The buzzing sound is the solonoid trying to connect but there is not enough current to turn the engine. It take a lot more current to turn the engine than it does to run the radio, lights and/or heater fan. It is also possible to get a new battery with a dead or bad cell in it. The battery may not have enough cold cranking amps for your model vehicle. Take it back to where ever you bought the battery. If it is within the warranty period, they should give you a prorated discount on the replacement.
