Batterty dead. Check engine light/Antifreeze pouring

My 2006 Cobalt battery keeps going dead. The shifter was repaired and it took a boast and started for three days and now will not start, sometimes it will take a jump start. After a jump start, I drove one mile reersed the car, heard a loud thump sound near the foot petal, the car shut off, got another jump start, the check engine light came on and after about five miles the car steamed and antifreeze poured out. Had the car towed. What could this be? The temp read 79. I can not start it because the battery is dead. Do I need to drain the radiator due to cold temp of 35 degrees to prevent a freeze in the block?

DO NOT DRAIN THE RADIATOR ( ANTI-FREEZE ) it wont freeze until around -10 to -20 below zero.you should run a 50/50 mix coolant/water.

The main problem could be a well known cobalt ignition issue. check all fuses, wires, and connections if you've worked on cars before and call to see if you still have any warranty left. This should be handled by a chevy dealer or chevy trained mechanic...to isolate the issue fast and avoid repeat visits to get er done.

I have Chevy Cobalt 2006. Won't start. Ket appears stocked can't pull out. What's the problem?

A battery indicating only 5.6 volts will never start that vehicle. Battery voltage should at least be 12.3 volts if you want to reliably start the car.

Is the battery dead? Check your battery condition and connections. Check your starter fuse from there. Check the connection to the starter then progress to the ignition side of the concern

2006 Cobalt LS Coupe Intermittent Starting Problem

sounds about right, probably is ignition switch, reason you don't get codes is because if power is'nt connecting to engine while problems occurs then ecm won't pick it up. you should have 2 ignition switches, (the lock cylinder and key switch, the other is the electrical, usually located under the dash, and commonly atttatched to the column close to the firewall, check connections first, it may just be a loose plug in connection

Could be the BTSI solenoid in the shifter, have that checked . You may have to buy complete shifter if it proves bad. This would keep you from removing key. Call you local dealer with VIN number and mileage have them check for the recall pertaining to the key rotation, yours may or may not be involved.

Sounds like your battery is dead. Most batteries last about two to three years. I suspect maybe yours has a couple of dead cells. You will need a hydrometer a device we use to test each cell. When you pick one up at the parts store pry open the caps off of the top of the battery. Next squeeze and hold the bulb on the hydrometer and stick the meter into each opening in the battery and release and make a notation of where the little ball in the meter is located. This will tell you that you have one or more cells dead and the battery will need replacing. Good Luck.
