Aztek alternator replacement 2003 3.4 V6

How do you replace the (105 amp) alternator in a 2003 Aztek 3.4L? I determined that it's the alternator as I have a new battery that delivers 12.5 VDC with the engine off. The alternator produces 14.8 volts while the engine is running and will intermittently kick out so I am back to the 12.5 VDC from the battery. I believe it to be the regulator. Anyway, it looks pretty straight forward but I thought I'd post this while waiting for my fingers to thaw out (wife has garage all piled with crap for an upcoming move...).

if you can carefully put a metal wrench on the rotating pulley of the alternator and felt a magnetism attracting the metal wrench, then your alternator is charging. if there is no magnetism, then the alternator is not charging...

another test is to measure the voltage on the small wires that went in to the alternator that says "F" for field, it should measure battery voltage...that is the voltage from the regulator..that means your regulator is working...but the altrntor is not..

without that battery voltage, then the regulator is he culprit...

Perfectly normal.
Starting with the 2005 model year, light duty full size pickups and utilities are equipped with a new Regulated Voltage Control (RVC) system. This system reduces the targeted output of the generator to 12.6-13.1 volts when in "Fuel Economy Mode" to improve fuel economy. The generator may exit "Fuel Economy Mode" if additional voltage is required. This will cause the voltmeter to fluctuate between 12 and 14 volts as opposed to non-regulated systems that usually maintain a more consistent reading of 14 volts. This fluctuation with the RVC system is normal system operation and NO repairs should be attempted.

2001 chevy silverado 2500hd battery light flashes intermittently. no problem with battery or alterntor. both tested ok. no problems with starting or running. voltage gauge reads just above 14. no problems with anything except battery light flashes. what could be the problem?

MY NA ME IS MAGICBROOM58, HAVE YOU TRIED .. I THINK IT'S ON THE FIRE WALL PASS. SIDE (CILINOID) TAKE THE RBBER OFF THE POS. AND TURN YOUR EGNITION OVER TO THE ON POS. GO BACK UNDER YOUR HOOD AND TAKE A RUBBER HANDLED WRECH?SCREW DRIVER AND CONNECT THE 2 POINTS IF IT TURNS OVER U FOUND YOUR PRBLEM

If the tensioner pulley is “shredding belts”. You might want to look into why. Most of the time belt length has nothing to do with the tensioner shredding the belt.

I don't show a dist cap available for a 3.4 V6 - so it is probably DIS.
The plug wires would go directly to a set of coils.

you need take old alternator with you to auto parts stores they can match up your alternator give you the correct AMP TYPE, your alternator amps is stamped on the out side alternator housing, the auto parts store can look up right amp alternator for your vechicle.when you say dont matter yes it does if you get wrong type alternator, your battery wont have good charge causing alternator fail early and battery fail early.

There are two,one is 105 amp,the other is 120 amp,and either one will fit,the 130 amp is the one to use,it is worth the extra amps,the alternator does not have to work as hard to keep up.

remove the washer fluid resivor and pull the alternator around its alot easier that way
