I have a 91 Accord. When I purchased it, the speedometer did not work. I replaced the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) and the speedometer started working again. I paid $24 for the sensor on ebay. The local part stores wanted $150. It's an easy fix. It takes about 20 minutes to replace.

It has an electrical speed sensor on the transmission. It should have three wires and be on the top of the tranny. There are two different ones. One for a manual trans and one for a automatic. They usually go bad.

There is also a drive piece the speed sensor bolts to. It has a drive in it, and has two lines coming off it. Sometimes the rubber lines get a hole and it wont work. Check the rubber lines off the drive first then check the drive under the speed sensor

Speedometer works intermittently

hi, sounds like the vehicle speed sensor mounted on the transmission is going bad or loosing signal. generally, honda speedometers work for life, i've only ever replaced one. now, this is a split year so it may have just a cable going to the transmission instead of an electronic sensor. if the cable is loose, this may also cause this issue. you should probably have a professional shop take a look as the speedometer cable/sensor is very buried in the back of the engine compartment under the air intake hose and behind the starter. also, if there is a check engine light on when the speedo stops working, this should be an easy diagnostic for a technician to do, it would likely be the speed sensor causing this engine light.

My speedometer wont move just reads 20 the hole time till car it turned off when it does decide to work the the millage starts again but when it is jsut resting at 20 nothing on the gauge works properly...

this happens to be a very common problem with accords of this vintage. the problem is in the speedometer gauge cluster itself. you can do 2 things replace with a used cluster from ebay or go to the dealer and purchase just the speedometer part from the honda parts department which would cost more then a used complete assembly.

My 91 Honda Accord's speedometer stop working if,

sounds like a possible bad ground wire, you will need to find out where these 3 items ground and see if they have a ground point in common.

1989 Honda Accord speedometer not working. What is a speedo head?

The speedo head or cluster is the part that houses the speedometer and tach, etc. now it may be the speedo cable that comes from the transmission to the speedo head that has broken. If so replace the cable and your back in business. If it is the head you can get them from your local recycle yard.

94 Honda Accord with stopped mile counter

You will need to pull the speedometer out and have the odometer (u call mileage counter) repaired, the little drive gear that comes off the speedometer to operate the odometer has failed or broken.
