Brakes Sticking The pass. side front brake caliper keeps sticking, I just replaced both calipers, rotors, and pads thinking that would solve my problem. But after replacing all that, the same caliper (which is a new one now) is still sticking. Any thoughts on to why? And the brakes seem fine until I have driven like 5-10 miles, and then the brake starts to stick. Weird!!! This is for a 93 Toyota Corrolla

I expect that the caliper is sticking. The rails get corroded or rusty and keep the caliper from returning to the rest position. sometimes the caliper pins are corroded and caust the same situation. Usually this seems to occur on one side and the result is that the pads on that side wear more quickly due to the caliper not retracting, thus leaving the pads touching the rotor and wearing quicker. Suggest caliper removal and scrape and wirebrush the rails, replace the caliper pins. I use a high temperature synthetic brake grease on the rails and the caliper pins for lubrication and protectionl.

There are at least 2 items that will cause your problem. The first is when you changed the pads you place the caliper in a different place on the support pins that the caliper slides on to centralise the brakes on the rotor. These mounting pins are prone to rusting up and actually keeps one pad on the rotor as the caliper cannot centralise during brake application. The second is a problem that occurs when the brake fluid is pushed back into the master cylinder reservoir from pushing the piston back into the caliper. Muck in the lines is pushed back into the compensating ports in the Master cylinder causing the brakes to drag and build up pressure from the heat generated by having the brakes on. Try flushing out the brake system using metholated spirits or replace the master cylinder

your brake caliper or calipers,may be sticking.when you drive it at night,for say 10 miles,then look at the fronf wheels,do you see a fire red glow behind the wheel on the brake caliper.? easy way to tell.jack the car up with the emergency brake on. pump the brakes with engine running,with the transmission in neutral? can you spin the tires by hand? if not,then you have a sticking brake caliper,which will burn the brakes up fast.eventually,the brake caliper will "lock" and then you will not be able to move the car in any gear.if you suspect bad brake caliper,replace both front brake rotors and calipers with new brake pads. easy way to eliminate the brake problems.if you replace the brake calipers and pads only.the rotors may still be warped due to all the heat that occured with the bad brake calipers. you will have a bad steering wheel vibration when braking otherwise. thank you,for choosing fixya.com!

the noise is probably the ware sensors on the brake pads making noise the noise lets you know that the brakes are getting thin are are ready to be replaced.if you let this go to long you can damage the brake rotors, make sure you check to make sure the caliper is not sticking on the left side being this side is making more noise ,a stuck caliper can cause premature brake pads ware .

caliper is sticking or pads are sticking ,proportioning valve with vehicle jacked up and supported and wheel removed inspect pads and rotor for damage excessive wear if good- turn hub/rotor by hand have someone assist u by stepping on brake observe brake caliper stop then release brake piston should release slightly from pad try turn hub again w/out touching brake if stuck in place replace and caliper released replace pads if caliper still clamped remove caliper and inspect for leak or damage compress caliper and try brake again if does if sticks again replace caliper

It sounds like the caliper slides themselves are sticking, remove your caliper and check that the caliper slides are lubricated and that the caliper slides easily on them

This is usualy associated with either a bad caliper or the brake line to that caliper colapsing not allowing the fluid to release pressure therefore keeping the pads in contact with the rotor causing the drag.

If its not the caliper causing the problem try replacing the rubber hose coming off of the caliper. Sometimes the inside of the hose will get messed up and let fluid go to the caliper but not return to the master cyl.

Check rubber brake hose at caliper and replace if defective.

Interesting, disc brakes don't normally stick. Since there is no tension pressure against the pads like drum brakes.

You indicated you replaced the right caliper and the master cylinder, but no mention of the disc or the piston (Some caliper assemblies are all in one, some are not.)

Here are some thoughts:

Disc is contaminated with oil, grease, brake fluid etc, when you brake, it is absorbed by the pad, gets hot and sticks.

You didn't replace left caliper, piston isn't working well, sending all pressure to right side.

You didn't indicate, new, used or rebuilt caliper. If used, get anew/remanufactured SET of calipers and either semi-mettalic or ceramic pads, and new rotors (I used to get rotors turned, but new replacements are now generally cheaper that turning old ones. When working with brakes I always recommend you work them as a set, regardless of how good the other side looks.

Make sure you clean the rotors with a solvent to ensure any grease or anti-rust agent is removed and dry will with several paper towels.

When installing pads, ensure you do not touch the braking surface of the pad or the rotor, body oil can contaminate too.
Make sure that the siding surface of the caliper is lubricatred with silicone grease designed for calipers (little packets are available at your parts store) On my GM Cars, it is the bolts that mount the caliper, but this varies by caliper design
