Jeep grand cherokee 97 shakes slightly, check engine light one, slight squealing sound?

The check enging light came on after driving 30 min on the highway at 75 mph, now there is a slight squealing sound and it shakes slightly when I drive at 30mph. Also when I'm sitting at a stop light it idles lower than usual.

Go to Autozone, they will scan your Jeep for free, takes just a few minutes and they should be able to tell you why that check engine light is on.

I had the exact same problem on my 04 GC. I put some Techron Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner in from Wal-Mart and it seemed to fix the problems right away. Let me know.

Just had a very similar problem. The cause: wiring harness scrapes against the vibrating engine and wears the insulation off the wires causing shorts. In my case, this happened at the point where the wiring harness goes around the back side of the valve cover. There are some studs there that love to eat away at the wiring harness. This causes the computer to go spastic.

SOURCE: 1996 jeep grand cherokee ltd problem with transfer case because of different size tires

You should have the same size tires in the front and back. By having 2 different sizes, you are changing the gear ratios between the front diff. and rear diff. You could wipe out the t-case especially if it is full time 4wd.

You can check fluid level by removing the rubber plug in the cover. Fluid is full when on level ground, it is just at the edge of the hole (or very close) if you are already getting noises out of there, you can remove the cover and inspect gears for wear or breakage. If you find a large amount of metal debris in the lube it tells you something bad is going on back there. Although rebuildable, it's not a home job...requires exact settings in order to operate properly. You can find good units far cheaper than even a gearset costs in any scrapyard. to match ratio, count the teeth on the ring gear and the pinion gear. the replacement MUST have the exact same number. Before swapping diffs, check all back there to make sure noise is not from somewhere else.

SOURCE: 97' jeep cherokee laredo shakes when driving

Could be a number of things. I've seen tires, steering stablizer, pitman arms, tie rods, etc etc cause this problem. Lock the steering colum, jack up the front end, BOTH SIDES, and try to turn the tires by hand. If you can move it an inch or more, it's your steering components. If not, could be your stablizer or tires. If tires are getting bad, replace those first. (fyi, steering components are easy to do, if you choose to do it yourself. A good parts store will help you with what you need if you can determin where it's loose. Might need a friend to help find the right cause.)

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee temp gauge high when heat is on

If your "check engine" light is turn on, I suggest scanned the PCM to know exactly what fault code is stored there. Additionally, could be some problem with the "temp sending unit".

whistling noise is prob. intake leak or emmissions air flow problem, the oil gauge, is either , oilpump screen clogged, or gauge prob. or if a lot of miles it could be the engine is just getting weak, or oil pump itself. check oil level, and sensor for leaks .

My 97 jeep grand cherokee makes a chirping sound under front

The noise and the light may or may not be related. The noise may be the wear indicator on the brake pads touching the rotor (they are supposed to do that when brakes are worn) The abs light triggers off a wheel on the axle end. If you have a bad joint on the axle, it could be noisy and causing the wheel to not have the proper clearance to the abs sensor. You really need to take the wheel and brake assembly off and carefully inspect everything. Make sure all abs sensor wires are undamaged...it doesn't have to be at the same wheel that's chirping.
