Replacing the heater core on your vehicle is a job in itself and if one is not mechanically inclined or knowledgable in this area I highly do not recommend attempting taking on such a task.I have done many of these and I will tell you it involves removing the whole dash including lossening the steering wheel and laying it on the seat your dash will also be laying on the seat but if you get this far behind the dash there is a plenum assembly your heater core is inside this case depending on how yours is set up you may or may not need to disconnect th A/C lines and you may or may not need to remove the whole plenum assembly to replace the heater core. If you do plan on attempting to take on this task I recommend you buy a repaire manual for your vehicle and follow the instructions.

SOURCE: antifreeze leak under dash, passenger side

Nothing special. lots of patience and don't poke any holes in it, don't pinch any wires under box and remember to plug in anything you disconnected going in!

SOURCE: I HAVE A 94 ford escort that is leaking antifreeze on the drivers side floor

there is only so many things that can cause this and are you sure its anti-freeze and not washer fluid.just something else.a damaged heater core is usually what causes a leak inside the car.when the heater cores were replaced did the shop say there were signs of them leaking or couldn`t see anything.the other is coolant from a previous leak could have spray aroung the air ducting in the dash and has finally found a way out.but this should have been gone shortly afterwards and usually there is only a mist that is sprayed into the air ducts which usually shows up on the inside of the windows,so i don`t think this is the problem.if the hose clamps are loose were the hoses are fastened to the heater core spigots/tubes it could be leaking inside the cars air duct.and yes its unusall for anti-freeze to leak onto the drivers floor but stranger things have happened.

Windshield fogging up in a 2004 dodge dakota have already replaced heater core

You need to get a new heater core, and not the cheapest one out there. Dodge heater cores are an exact-fit and the cheaper ones are not as well made either. If you are having to bend slightly or force into the heater box, it won't work.

We have changed the heater core,,, and thermostat.. it is still blowing cool air... i bought the coolant temperature sensor but dont know where it goes is it behind the dash board also?

Hi I have a 2002 JGC ltd and it is most likely your dampeners or louvers located behind your dual temp controls for driver and passenger sides that control the direction of air flow from air outside in, circulation, heat to windshield, centre and or to floor etc. I had a friend that had heat only to the passenger side and cold air blowing to driver side. He took it in and they replaced stuck dampeners and it was not cheap. I also had a 98 JGC ltd with the (coolant sensor is bad) warning coming on at least 4 to 5 times in a day and had heat. My problem is that my interior glass was fogging up, used glass defogger and stop leak. The problem was fixed but I still smell antifreeze because of the leak and it is irritating me. I may consider replacing the heater core and was wondering if you took it in or did it your self and how did you do it if you replaced it yourself, plus how much did it cost you?

Thanks.

the heater core is the only thing you havent replaced besides the thermostat so feel the carpets and floor around the floor heater out puts to see if there damp or sticky they may smell like a sweet smell as well.

I turn on the defrost and the windows fog up and the car smeels like antifreeze. Also feels like not enough air coming out defrost vents; most air coming out dash vents. It has been using a little water...

Hey Tbs,
You are correct in assuming it will get worse.. if you are leaking antifreeze, it wil not fix itself (DO NOT put any kind of "radiator stop leak" in it) .... take it to a qualified professional and tell them whast happening and let them repair it!! (a radiator shop - NOT the dealer)..

Antifreeze steam comeing through vents

Your heater core has a leak, it's like a small radiator that heats up and the blower motor blows air thru it to create heat in the car. It is leaking anti freeze into the heater box.

Heater immediately fogs all windows and there is a sweet odor in the cab of 2003 Buick Rendezvous, defroster works fine, but will not clear the windows after heat is put on

Sounds like a possible heater core failure(hole in it) the smell indicates to me the coolant(anti-freeze) is leaking into the passenger compartment.
Check the carpet in front of the front passenger seat for moisture, this would confirm heater core leak.
Good luck !

Have wet drivers floor, believe heater core leak

1st make sure it's the heater core. Usually it's the passenger side that is wet. To confirm it's the heater core, 1. do you smell antifreeze? It has a sweet smell, and should be easy to notice it if leaking. 2. Do have a problem with the windows fogging up, and turning on the defroster doesn't help or makes it worse? If the core is leaking, the moisture from the leak will fog up the windows, and the defrost mode struggles to clear the glass, as moisture is blown up the vents onto the glass. If 1 and 2 don't exist, the water on the drivers side is most likely a leak from rain along the door gasket, or windshield, or firewall.

Smell coolant when heater is turn on...

the heater core inside the dash is leaking, it may get worse and coolant will start to drip on the floor out of the heating outlet

Heater works but defrost fills inside with fog.

your heater core has probably sprung a leak.does the fog smell kinda sweet?....check the floor in the front where the floor mats are for moisture or even puddles of antifreeze.(the replacement of a heater core can be very expensive as the entire dash usually needs to be removed to access the heater core)also look under the engine near the firewall for antifreeze drips.
