Hi, this might be because of a voltage drop on the cables or the battery needing replacement. The colder the weather the more current your starter will braw. You can check for a voltage accross the bateery by connecting a volt meter to the battery and crank it if the voltage drop below 9.6V your battery might need replacement, if not you will need to see what the voltage drop is on the solenoid. You should have battery power on the terminal that activates the solenoid in order to get the solenoid to energise. If you do not have battery voltage on that terminal I suggest putting a relay between the ignition switch and the starter or replacing the wiring harness between the 2. Also check the connection on the ignition switch itself as you can get a bad connection there to.

SOURCE: 2005 Chevy Equinox P0742 & P0700 problems. My
2005 Equinox's are known for water leakage problems around the cowl and windshield areas. Water leaks in and causes shorts in the main wiring harness and eventual corrosion between the fuse panel's grounding to the floor under the shifter console. Reroute a new ground wire to the body from the fuse panel in the shift console. Find the source of water leak. GM paid to have mine fixed.

If the clutch is hydraulic, check for any leaks. Check the level of hydraulic fluid in the clutch master cylinder. Top it up if low and bleed the system. Remember if the level is low it indicates a leak somewhere. Or if it's a cable. See if there's any way of adjusting it. Some clutch cables auto adjust. Based on a ratchet design. It this don't improve or solve your problem. You will unfortunately have to replace your clutch kit.
