SOURCE: having trouble getting truck to pass emissions

Try setting the timing several degrees less that what it calls for. The car may run a little sluggish, but it might have a better chance of passing. You can move it back where it belongs after the test.

1984 Fleetwood Pace arrow eleganza has high HC

The easiest way to reduce HC at idle is to retard the timing a few degrees. You might have to increase the base idle and you will notice power loss, but the settings can be returned once vehicle passes inspection.

I have 1994 chevy 1500 it failed smog at idle . the hc ppm was100 max and i was putting out 848 what should i do. the high idle test at passed fine max is1.0 and i was.95

May not be much you can do yourself without a scanner and an exhaust gas analyzer.
High HC is too much fuel. So it could be a leaking injector, O2 sensor, air flow problem, or something else.
It could also be not up to normal operating temp due to an open thermostat.
Without the proper equipment you really have no way of knowing whats coming out the tailpipe.

as long as you have no check engine light on change oil, air filter. pep boys sells a product called guaranteed to pass add to fuel make sure car is hot when you go back for emission test cold car has high hc levels it also helps to post the hc level you tested at and the limit on your receipt hope this helps

How to fix high hc on 94 isuzu rodeo v6 3.2

Took me a couple of views to figure out what HC means.
You would need to know what the limit is for your area and what the exhaust is producing, then find out what the cause is.
It stands for unburned hydrocarbons which is supposed to be controlled by the O2 sensor among other things. Could be a sensor or the engine not getting up to normal temp.

Vehicle inspection, pass primary emissions test but failed high idle test HC ppm 559. standard is 220. man at inspection said was missing at high idle, what can cause that??

First either replace or clean the idle air control valve. You can clean it with a non-chlronated brake cleaner and wire brush. Then take the mass air flow sensor off and do the same but don't use a brush just the cleaner only.

Fails idle emissions test hc

High HC?
****** ignition timing....this will lower HC but raise other values during test.
Do you have room to increase other values?
After test return timing to the most advanced position without spark knock under load for best MPG.

High hc

you may need replace the catalytic converter, but 1st do this, clean the throttle body and idle airbypass valve, change the oil before the retest as well, get it as hot as you can before the test, hold it at a high idle prior to the test, this may squeak you by, as a 20 year smog tech these are the thing I did, if all else fails do the cat conv.
