1998... I would change the spark plugs & wires, add in fuel injector cleaner, change fuel filter & air filter.
Could be many different things here.
Check the spark plugs for any sign of oil that would stop them from firing like they should.

Quickest starting point would be to interrogate the OBD system for any issues.
However as this will generall mean a trip to a dealer, you might like to try some basic (but quite often fruitfull areas) :
Pull the spark plugs and inspect them. If any are oily there may be a head gasket facture. They should all be similar in colour (usually greyish/brownish). If they are not the genuine Toyota/Denso units, replace them. No good checking the spark plug wires - Caldina GTTs don't have them ! But do inspect the COP units for broken pieces, cracks and tracking lines which will indicate that they've been arcing.
The 3SGTE engine is pretty reliable and trouble free, as long as it's serviced properly. If you don't service it by the book, and/or it hasn't had, and is overdue for a 100Km service do replace the spark plugs, air filter and fuel filter.
Check the air flow path hoses and clamps. In particular, check the large convoluted inlet hose to the turbo for perishing and cracks. In that hot engine environment, it develops leaks that cause rough running.
The Caldina GTT is full of electronics, so it's fairly necessary to be able to read the ODB error codes. This will help with diagnosis or point you in the direction of mechanical issues.
Rough running may also be casued by timing issues. As the GTT doesn't have a distributor this is all under the control of the ECU with inputs from both camshaft and crankshaft rotation sensors. Check the wiring for both of these. The OBD codes are your best friend for finding these sorts of issues.
Although fuel injection cleaner won't hurt, I doubt it will help. As long as you use good quality fuel of the correct octane rating, it much more likley to be a clogged fuel filter, especially if it's long overdue for a change.

SOURCE: check engine light on

I had to do some digging to find this info: The code is P2716, which is a problem with the 'transmission pressure control solenoid D or it's circuit.' It is located on the transaxle valve body. There apparently is a technical service bulletin (TSB) # 1406 concerning this. If your Corolla is still under warranty, the dealer will fix it, which is, according to what I could find, replacement of the computer that controls the transmission. The bucking problem you described may have actually been a transmission shifting problem, a symptom of this code the cars computer threw. If you did get some debris drawn out of your gas tank due to the low level, the injector cleaner might help, but it has nothing to do with this code. I would recommend you have the fuel filter replaced (to address the low fuel tank, possible debris drawn into fuel line issue), and check w/ the dealer about the TSB, it covers '05 thru '07 Corollas.

SOURCE: 2005 toyota corolla light comes on then goes off for a few days e

i had the same codes and the same "bucking" on my 05 Corrolla. I had my mechanic replace the solenoid (not cheap) and the light stayed on & the codes were the same. He thought my computer needed to be reflashed after the fix. I took it to Toyota where they ended up switching out the computer...free of charge.

Apparently 05 Corrollas have a "bulletin" on the faulty computers. they cause the check engine lights to light up & give those readings. It is not a recall because it is not a safety issue.

TOYOTA COROLLA VERSO chokes when accelerating

first tell what chokes mean. (it means 2 things so I ask)
2006 never got a full tune up on the engine in 16 years./?
uphills. power loss = chokes sure.but
for example, engine misfires violently felt and heard.???
or no misfire but lacks power just like dragging 2000lb dead weight.
we call that bogging, like walking in swap or bog.
bad spark loves to fail up hills (no new spark parts) due to higher combustion pressures.
bogging is caused by low fuel pressure, the filters is packed up
or air filter never changed out. again tune up parts.

the best ACT is get the car serviced in a real shop.
tell them it lacks power on hills , hot engine
the cold engine evidence told , hints at weak fuel pressure.
EFI FPR might be bad, fuel pressure Regulator, and more to find more takes tools you do not have,.

Oil consumption for gtt

Oil consumption for any vehicle can depend on a number of factors including engine construction, mileage, type of driving so it's a bit difficult to place an exact figure on it.
In the case of the 3SGTE in the Caldina GTT consumption seems to be average/normal, which equates to a drop of about 1/4~1/3 the distance between full and empty on the dipstick every 5,000km (3,000mi). And that's been my average for all 3SGTE's I've had.
If you have a high mileage (>200,000Km/120,000mi) unit, or drive enthusiastically your consumption may increase, but at that age brittle seals are more likely to be responsible for increased oil loss.

My 2000 toyota caldina (gtt) has problems with the brake system.it has had the brake pads replaced and calipers bleed but the pedal keeps sinking to the floor

Repair or replace the brake master cylinder. An internal seal has given out, leaking back into the cylinder, allowing pedal to keep traveling to floor.

Hi, my car, a toyota caldina, has three buttons on the dashboard that i don't understand. One button has a sign of a windscreen with a wiper and current going through it with an ON light indicator. Another...

on a 1997-2002 caldina G, GT, GTT..

One is the rear demister (front demister is in the center console with the heater). But it could also be the windscreen cleaner pump, if you mean on the stalk. (up, front window, down, reap window).

One is the fog lamps if fitted

The last is an inverter buit into the car so you can run 100Volt domestic devices (like laptops/shavers and stuff). I think the japanese have 100 volt domestic power. You'll find the *** power socket on the back of the centre console under a little hatch, easiest to see from the back seat. Mostly you want it turned off.

Driving and when want to speed up the accelerator just stays in the same speed or slows down

It seems as if you are driving with the choke engaged all the time. If you haven't pulled the choke then check the business end where you might see the choke lever stuck in a position that indicates the choke has been pulled. Push it back manually and try again.....sodeep
