You have a bad COP Ignition Coil or several

They only misfire whenever they feel like it

If you had professional software --you could road test in
Mode #06 & look at cylinder misfire counts

You need to buy a couple of coils & try in cylinder #5,
front one drivers side

If that isn't the correct one or you have several, walk the
other new coil to get to the bad ones

Disregard any other stray codes until the coil issues are
solved

If it stays on your have Class B misfire
If it flashes you have a Class A misfire that could
damage the exhaust converter

SOURCE: Truck losing power and service engine soon light on

Like to other guy said, give it a tuneup. Also try SEAFOAM to clean carb up of slug. Also check to make sure the butter fly for the choke has not come loose, causing it the choke it down. Failed choke pull-off.

SOURCE: "check engine light flashing"

The flashing check engine light is typical of a misfire issue. There are two things I would do to start with.

1. Take the vehicle to an auto parts store like Autozone and have them hook up their scan tool so that they can retrieve stored trouble codes. Even if the check engine light is not on, they should be able to retrieve recently stored codes.

2. Do a complete tune up. New plugs, new plug wires, new air filter, new fuel filter if it has not been done recently.

If the parts store pulls the codes and they cannot tell you what they mean, post them up here and I will see what I can dig up for you.

SOURCE: 2000 vw bug shaking and check engine light flashing when driving

You have a really bad misfire going on. i would not drive the car but if you get it towed you can get the engine codes read which will give you more of an idea on whats going on. Otherwise its just a guess.

SOURCE: Saturn Ion shakes when started.

I would take the vehicle in to a mechanic.
There could be damage internally with the engine.
or the transmission.

Replaced 1.8 liter engine in a 2006 Civic after it overheated bad. Had to replace two ignition coils and it will idle smooth until it gets warm then starts missing.Loses power and check engine light starts...

misfires are from coils , plugs , HT leads , and injectors and fuel pressure . If the head got that hot then it is possible that the injectors have an internal problem that shows when they get hot and the electronics breaks down.

2002 ford expedition is missing

Check the code and see which cylinder is the one that is missing. Then remove that coil and check the plug. The coils are known to go bad on these vehicles. To make sure you can swap it with another coil if the misfire changes to another cylinder then replace the one that is causing the misfire.Hope this helps.

I have a code po354 on my 99 expedition, book says cylinder d misfire, which cylinder is this?

I just worked on 98 expedition 5.4l had code PO354. This code refer to an open primary coil winding, open wire, or bad PCM.
Check primary winding with ohm meter should be from 0.5 to 1.5 ohms and about 2.5 ohms with a hot engine. check wiring with a noid light, run the engine and shake the harness if light goes out repair harness you should have battery voltage with key on the computer controls the ground side.

Engine shakes periodically; warm or cold. Bad Coil?

the p 0300 codes gives you the clue
it is random misfires and that is predominately from injector and low fuel pressure
pulling a plug lead will amke no difference if there is no fuel in that cylinder to ignite
bad coils will be a constant miss regardless
try putting a can of quality injector cleaner in the tank to see if that fixes the problem
have a fuel pressure tset done to check for pump, filter or pressure regulator problems

when was the last tune up done and fuel filter was changed?
there is no spark plug wires I had to replace the boot for the number one cylinder on a 2000 expedition that was also having the same problem if the check engine light is on take it to auto zone and they will put it on a tester free of charge and I hope and pray that it is not the problem like the one I am working on right now I am replacing the upper and lower intake gaskets
